Pete Crow-Armstrong hit his 43rd home run of the season to pass Billy Williams for most home runs in a single season by a left-handed hitter in franchise history during Wednesday’s series finale against the Atlanta Braves. Oh, and then PCA hit home run No. 44 in the seventh inning. The star center fielder isn’t only marching toward a unanimous MVP; Crow-Armstrong is now eyeing the best season in Chicago Cubs history and is in conversations for having one of the best seasons in MLB history, period.
The Cubs center fielder reached base four more times on Wednesday, leading the team to an 8-4 win over the Braves. PCA was 3-for-4, with two home runs and a triple, adding a leadoff walk to start the game. His third-inning home run gave him the franchise record for most homers by a lefty, a record that has stood since 1970, when Hall of Fame player Billy Williams crushed 42 home runs with the Cubs.
In the seventh inning, Crow-Armstrong blasted his second home run of the night, and his 44th of the season. The 24-year-old is now one home run behind Kyle Schwarber for most in MLB.
The MVP race in the National League is no longer a debate. Shohei Ohtani was slumping for a few weeks before the Los Angeles Dodgers placed him on the injured list last Friday. No one else competes with PCA, who 100% deserves to be the unanimous MVP.

PCA is now at 10.4 fWAR through 153 games. He is three stolen bases away from becoming the seventh 40/40 player in MLB history, and thanks to his incredible defense, Crow-Armstrong will not only win another Gold Glove in center field, but he’ll also likely be the Platinum Glove winner, recognized as the best overall defender in MLB.
His defense will always set him apart, and it’s why this 2026 season will go down as one of the best in MLB history.
