The Milwaukee Brewers completed their dominant postseason run and delivered the first World Series title in franchise history, beating the Tampa Bay Rays 4-1 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field. Just minutes after they were finally able to get the monkey off their back and win a championship the Brewers were still thinking about the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs remain rent-free in Milwaukee’s heads, as evidenced by Trevor Megill’s first message to Brewers fans, who have been waiting their entire lives for this moment.
Ben Verlander: What do you have to say to these fans that are literally on top of the dugout right now?
Trevor Megill: Have fun talking shit to Chicago next year. We have a ring.
That’s the same type of energy that we saw from the Brewers in 2025, when the eliminated the Cubs from the playoffs in the NLDS, and focused more on trolling their division rival rather than celebrating their own victory.

However, as much as we want to play the rent-free card, there is no denying that Megill is 100% right. The Brewers have dominated the NL Central for much of the last decade, winning the division crown four straight years, five of the last six, and seven total since 2018. The only shit-talking that Cubs fans had left before this year was that the Brewers, despite their regular-season success, have never been able to win a World Series.
Well, that’s over now. Milwaukee wasn’t just the best team in the regular season; they were relentless in the postseason, going 11-2 to win their first World Series title. The pitching was dominant, as the Brewers posted a 1.98 ERA in their 13 playoff games. Their World Series matchup against the Rays was a laugher; they won in five games, holding Tampa Bay to just 12 runs with a team slash line of .182/.224/.242.
Their offense was also incredible: the Brewers were the only team in the playoffs to post a wRC+ above 100, at 107, with a .262/.346/.396. The Brewers hit the most home runs and stole the most bases. Just an all-around ass-kicking this October.
So yeah, you’ve earned it, Brewers fans. Talk your shit.
