WATCH: Nick Madrigal Error Leads To White Sox Loss On Opening Day vs. Angels

Dylan Bundy gets Tim Anderson to swing and miss at a low fastball to start the game.

Adam Eaton grounds out to second base, but José Abreu keeps the first inning going with a single through the right side of the infield.

Bundy strikes out Moncada on a 3-2 change up to end the top of the first.

So, ugh, kinda looks like the White Sox went a little overboard with the Eloy tribute. I mean, the injury was brutal, but he’s not dead!

Lucas Giolito is locked in. Made David Fletcher look silly striking out on a change up.

Two in a row. Sit down Shohei Ohtani. Another change up.

Holy shit! Lucas strikes out the side, capping off the first with a big whiff from Mike Trout.

Bundy comes right back to strike out Yasmani Grandal and Leury Garcia. However, once again with two outs the White Sox get a hit, as Luis Robert crushes a double to left field.

Gotta love speed.

Robert steals third.

Wild pitch offense! Robert getting it done on the bases, scores on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.

Zack Collins grounds out to end the second.

Giolito with another strikeout. That change up is killing the Angels so far.

Albert Pujols is the first Angels batter to hit the ball out of the infield, but it’s only a pop-fly to shallow right field.

Nick Madrigal goes after the first pitch and he flies out to center.

TA with a sharp one-hopper to Rendon at third. Two quick outs for Bundy.

Eaton with some good contact on a 2-2 pitch, but Trout makes a nice catch in deep center.

José Iglesias with the first somewhat hard-hit ball for the Angels, but Anderson throws him out after ranging to his left.

Bundy got some calls out of the zone early and Giolito takes advantage with a strikeout looking of Max Stassi on a pitch that looked outside.

Dexter Fowler becomes strikeout number 501 in Giolito’s career. He’s rolling right now, 45 pitches through three innings.

Abreu gets frozen on an inside curve ball for strike 3.

Moncada with a double down the left-field line, fair by an inch!

Grandal doesn’t chase and draws a walk. Two on, one out for Garcia.

Runners to second and third after Garcia grounds out to first. Robert up.

Nothing doing this time around as Robert flies out to Fowler in right field.

Another Angels batter falls behind in the count. Fletcher flies out to Eaton.

Ohtani fouls out to Moncada.

First time that Giolito was overthrowing and he ends up walking Trout.

Rendon walks and now the Angels have two runners on with Upton due up.

On an 0-2 pitch Upton singles to center, Trout scores and it’s tied 1-1. Cancel the postgame show, the no-hitter is gone.

Pujols gives Sox fans a scare, but his fly ball dies just short of the warning track in left-center.

Collins grounds out to Fletcher. Oh and if you missed it, his dad is thinking about getting a special tattoo.

Madrigal grounds out to shortstop.

Couldn’t hold down TA for too long. He singles up the middle.

BOOM! Adam Eaton with a two-run bomb to right field. 3-1 Sox.

Abreu strikes out swinging to end the inning.

Angels starting to make some hard contact. After a line out to Robert to start the inning, Stassi launches a solo home run to center field to make it 3-2.

Fowler looking completely lost tonight, another rough swinging strikeout for him against Giolito.

Giolito closes out the inning strong, comes back to strikeout Fletcher. Angels getting cooked by Giolito’s change up tonight.

White Sox getting to Bundy now. Leadoff single for Moncada.

More solid contact, but Grandal flies out to left.

Garcia grounds out, but he beats out the double play throw to first.

Hard grounder off the bat of Robert, Rendon throws to second for the force.

Giolito back out to start the sixth and Ohtani smokes one to right field. Fortunately it’s right at Eaton.

And that’s it. Tony La Russa goes to the pen. Codi Heuer in for Giolito.

A four-pitch walk for Trout.

Rendon singles and the Angels have the tying and go-ahead runs on base. Upton, who already has one run driven in, is up.

Upton smashes one to third, but Moncada is there and he starts an inning-ending 5-4-3 double play!

Bundy is done after six. Right-hander Aaron Slegers comes in for the Angels.

Collins flies out to Upton near the line in left field.

Madrigal reaches on an infield hit, as Rendon couldn’t come up with a bare-handed attempt on a dribbler to third.

Madrigal called out on a stolen base attempt. Looked safe, but La Russa doesn’t challenge and Anderson strikes out swinging to end the inning.

Two quick outs for Heuer as Pujols pops up to Madrigal and Iglesias grounds out to Moncada. Stassi keeps the inning alive for the Angels, singling to left field.

Fowler strikes out for the third time. Rough night for him.

Righty Mike Mayers pitching for the Angels.

Eaton strikes out looking.

Iglesias makes a ridiculous play to rob Abreu of a hit. Wowza!

Great night for Moncada, who gets on base for the third time with a walk.

Grandal grounds out to Mayers.

Aaron Bummer on the bump to face the top of the Angels batting order.

Bad luck to start the inning, as Fletcher reaches base after a come backer glances off the glove of Bummer. Most likely an out if the ball goes through untouched.

Oh boy. Madrigal with a bad throw to second that pulls Anderson off the bag. E4 and now Trout is up with two on and no one out.

Nothing going right for the White Sox. Grandal can’t handle a pitch, which allows Fletcher to go to third. Ohtani stays at first. Passed ball called on Grandal.

Trout makes the Sox pay. Single to left and it’s tied 3-3. Rendon up with runners at first and second, still no outs.

Huge strikeout by Bummer. Rendon swings through an inside slider.

What a battle between Bummer and Upton. The 11-pitch plate appearance ends with a walk to load the bases. There was a brutal missed call on what was a clear strike early in the at-bat. Not looking great, but Pujols is a great double play candidate.

Bummer gets a ground ball, but it’s a high chopper to third and Moncada only has one play at first to get Pujols. Angels lead 4-3, runners at second and third with two outs.

Matt Foster now in for the Sox.

Moncada throws out a hustling Iglesias to end the eighth.

Top 9

Angels closer Raisel Iglesias comes in for the save opportunity. 6-7-8 due up for the Sox.

Garcia strikes out swinging.

Robert strikes out swinging.

Collins with the last chance for the Sox, but he flies out to right field.

That was a tough loss for the White Sox. Giolito was good. The bullpen was good, but the defense let them down in the eighth.
