During this week’s episode of the Pinwheels and Ivy Podcast, we discuss how the White Sox offense has been horrible during the first two weeks of the 2022 season. It’s gotten to the point that Tony La Russa is so desperate that he’s batting Leury Garcia third in the lineup for Thursday’s series finale against Cleveland.
Today’s #WhiteSox starters at Progressive Field.

Just how crazy is this move by La Russa? Garcia is one of the worst hitters to bat third in any lineup across MLB since 2010.
Players since 2010 to hit third despite having the worst career and season OPS of anyone in lineup:
Kila Ka’aihue KCR 2010
Don Kelly DET 2010
Joey Wendle TBR 2018
Elvis Andrus TEX 2018
Aaron Hicks NYY 2019/2021
Leury Garcia CHW 2022(w/ at least 100 career PA and 20 season PA)

Brutal.
However, to be fair to La Russa, Garcia does have the best numbers against Guardians’ starting pitcher Zach Plesac, going 5-for-13 with a walk in his career. Plus, it’s not like anyone other than Tim Anderson and Andrew Vaughn are hitting for the White Sox anyway.
But still, you know it’s bad for the White Sox when Garcia is batting third.
They’re currently tied with the Twins and Marlins with 40 runs scored this season, ranking them 22nd in MLB. The White Sox also rank 25th in OPS, (.612) 22nd in SLG (.347) and 29th in OBP at .265.
We also destroy Dallas Keuchel not just because of his performance on Wednesday, but more so because of the veteran pitcher’s comments after the 11-1 loss, when he pretty much threw his teammates under the bus.
And don’t miss out on the full show!
