Dallas Keuchel picks up where he left off in 2020, strikes out David Fletcher on three pitches.

Shohei Ohtani rifles one past Abreu and rolls all the way to the all. Ohtani races to third base. Kinda looked like Eaton took his time getting to the ball. Abreu charged with an error on the play.

Tough error on Abreu.

Keuchel gets Trout to make weak contact, but the slow roller gets Ohtani in from third and Yoan Moncada can’t get the bare-hand attempt which lets Trout reach safely. 1-0 Angels.

Anthony Rendon misses a two-run homer by a bit and then on the next pitch he grounds into a 6-4-3 double play to end the first.

Moncada strikes out swinging on a fastball. Heaney looking good early even with that rocket hit by Robert.

Andrew Vaughn making his MLB debut and he goes down on strikes. Heaney with another fastball high in the zone gets a whiff.

Yasmani Grandal lines out to Dexter Fowler in right field. Six up, six down for Heaney against the Sox.

Keuchel falls behind 3-0 to Albert Pujols, but on a 3-2 pitch he gets an easy groundout to Abreu.

José Iglesias smacks a single to left field.

Max Stassi grounds out to TA to end the second.

Adam Eaton grounds out to second. Not much going for the Sox against Heaney.

Yermín Mercedes rips a single to left-center, his first MLB hit!

Nick Madrigal gets two strikes on him, but that’s when he’s at his best. Singles to left. Two on for Anderson.

TA reaches safely on a fielder’s choice to third. Madrigal out at second, Mercedes goes to third. Robert up with runners on the corners.

Great patience from Robert. Got ahead 2-0, count went to 2-2 and after a foul ball he didn’t chase two pitches out of the zone to walk and load the bases for Abreu.

BANG!

Just like that the Sox lead 4-1.

Moncada strikes out swinging.

Dexter Fowler flies out to Vaughn in left field.

Keuchel with another ground ball out, Fletcher hits one weakly to Madrigal.

Easy inning for Keuchel, ends it with a swinging strikeout of Ohtani.

Vaughn with a good at-bat to leadoff the fourth, draws a walk.

Well, the Sox are seeing Heaney really good now. Grandal singles to right field and Vaughn easily gets to third base. Runners on the corners, no outs, Eaton up.

Eaton with an RBI-single. Sox lead 5-1. Heaney’s done. Lost it fast in the third inning.

Junior Guerra comes in and delivers a wild pitch. Runners go to second and third.

Mercedes with a 2-run single! He moves up to second on the throw home. Sox up by six runs.

Madrigal with a soft liner to shortstop for the first out.

Fletcher makes a nice play up the middle, gets Anderson out by half a step. Mercedes goes to third with two outs.

Mercedes stranded as Robert strikes out swinging. Big 3-run inning for the Sox.

Mike Trout is really good. Drills a double to left.

Rendon pounds one deep to center, but Robert makes the catch on the warning track. Trout tags up to third.

Upton walks, runners at the corners for Pujols.

This man can still hurt you. Pujols smashes a three-run homer to straight away center. Sox lead now at 7-4.

Iglesias strikes out swinging on a ball in the dirt.

Angels definitely making some hard contact, but Keuchel escapes. Stassi almost went deep, but Robert makes another catch on the warning track to end the fourth.

Top 5

Abreu nearly beats out a throw from Rendon, but he’s the first out of the inning. Angels make a pitching change. Junior Guerra out, Chris Rodriguez in.

Along with Vaughn, Rodriguez is also making his MLB debut tonight.

The young righty throwing some filth. Blows away Moncada on a 97mph fastball after a pair of sliders.

Vaughn grounds out to third.

Fowler with a leadoff single to left.

A 4-pitch walk to Fletcher and Keuchel is done. Matt Foster comes in to face Ohtani, Trout and Rendon.

Foster dominates Ohtani with a couple nasty change ups and then strikes out him swinging with a fastball up and away.

OH BABY! Foster freezes Trout on a fastball at the knees for strike 3.

Matt Foster did an amazing job against the best hitters in the Angels’ lineup and then Adam Eaton dropped a fly ball in right field.

Sox lead down to 7-6.

Foster strikes out Upton to finish the inning.

Grandal grounds out to Iglesias.

Rodriguez with another nasty breaking ball to strikeout Eaton.

Mercedes is 3-for-3! His third single of the night.

Madrigal strikes out looking on a pitch that was definitely a few inches outside of the strike zone.

Michael Kopech making his season debut and it’s his first regular season action since Sept. 2018.

Pujols pops up to shortstop and Iglesias grounds out to shortstop for the first two outs.

Kopech strikes out Stassi on a fastball. Great debut for Kopech.

Robert with an infield single. This man is fast.

A pickoff throw gets past Pujols and Robert heads over to second.

A four-pitch walk for Abreu and Rodriguez is done for the night.

Mike Mayers in to pitch for the Angels.

Oof. After a great Opening Day, Moncada now with four strikeouts tonight.

For a second it seemed like Vaughn might have his first MLB hit, but Trout makes a running catch coming from center.

Billy Hamilton replaces Vaughn in left field. Kopech comes out for his second inning.

Kopech strikes out Fowler looking with a nasty slider.

Angels doing nothing against Kopech. Fletcher gets jammed and he pops up in the infield.

Ohtani strikes out swinging on a slider in the dirt. Oh yeah, Michael Kopech is back.

Grandal flies out to center. Mayers still pitching for the Angels.

Eaton with a long at-bat, but it ends with a strikeout.

A four-hit game for Mercedes!

Madrigal bounces one up the middle, Mercedes out at second.

Tony La Russa keeps Kopech in there to face Trout, Rendon and Upton.

Kopech vs. Trout. That was fantastic. Trout draws the walk.

And now La Russa takes Kopech out. Evan Marshall coming in for the White Sox.

Marshall falls behind 2-0 to Rendon, but Marshall jams him and Anderson catches the pop up.

Marshall falls behind again, this time 3-0, and Upton swings. Should have been an easy double play, but Moncada bobbles the ground ball and he can only get Upton at first.

Pujols gets intentionally walked. La Russa bringing in Liam Hendriks.

Iglesias gives it a ride to right-center field, but Robert runs it down in the gap to end the inning. Oh my!

Top 9

Did someone say insurance runs? Tim Anderson blasts a solo shot to right-center off the Angels closer.

Robert grounds out to Iglesias.

Abreu singles to right field and that’s it for Raisel Iglesias. Joe Maddon brings in Steve Cishek.

A brutal strike 3 call and Moncada has a 5-strikeout game.

Billy Hamilton with his first at-bat with the White Sox. Cishek walks him after being ahead 0-2.

Bang. Game. Grandal drives in two with a double to left-center field, Sox go up 10-6.

Lefty Alex Claudio comes in for Cishek.

Eaton draws a walk and now Mercedes has a chance at a 5-hit game.

HE DID IT! A two-run double to left field for Mercedes and it’s a 5-hit game!!!

 

And with it, he sets a White Sox record.

Madrigal grounds out to end the inning.

Hendriks gets two quick outs and then Fletcher reaches on an infield single.

Good thing the White Sox got those big insurance runs. Ohtani crushes a 2-run homer.

Trout walks and Hendriks getting close to 40 pitches.

Hendriks strikes out Rendon to get the save.

FINAL: White Sox, 12, Angels 8
