Penis Balloon Flies into White Sox Dugout

-

The Chicago White Sox lost 3-2 on Sunday, getting swept at home by the Detroit Tigers. That came right after they were shutout 10-0 Saturday night. Safe to say that fans have tuned the team out this summer and with no Luis Robert Jr. in the lineup this weekend, Steve Stone and Jason Benetti talking about a penis balloon that flew onto the field and into the White Sox dugout during Sunday’s game was the highlight of the series.

I mean, the sexual innuendo from Stone was probably the most fun he’s had calling a White Sox game in 2023.

White Sox Trying to Get #1 Pick

The White Sox entered 2023 trying to get back to first in the AL Central Division and now they’re ending the season trying to get the #1 pick in the 2024 draft.

Following their three-game sweep at the hands of the Tigers, the White Sox now have a record of 53-84. That’s the third-worst record in the American League and fourth-worst record in MLB.

MLB changed its draft beginning in 2023, having its first ever draft lottery. The team with the worst record is no longer guaranteed the #1 pick. Instead, the three worst teams at the end of the season each have a 16.5% at getting the first overall pick.

The team with the fourth-worst record at the end of the season, has a 13.2% chance at that #1 pick.

Here’s how the league currently stands heading into Monday’s play.

So, if the White Sox want the best odds for the #1 pick, they have to “catch” the Colorado Rockies. The White Sox are certainly during their best.

Since August, the White Sox are 10-20, which did include losing two of three to the Rockies in Colorado.

Looking ahead at the remainder of the White Sox’s schedule, only seven of their final 25 games are against teams contending for a playoff spot. That’s four games against the Minnesota Twins, Sept. 14-17, and three against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Sept. 25-27.

Meanwhile, the Rockies have most of their games against contenders to end the season. Colorado will play 23 games against teams vying for a postseason spot to end the regular season.

So, if the White Sox want to get into the top-3 worst records, they’re really going to have to work extra hard to suck down the stretch.
