Ladies, gentlemen, find yourself someone as loyal as Bob Nightengale is to Jerry Reinsdorf. Who needs a PR firm when you have a national baseball writer doing the work for you, well, attempting to do it anyway.
You probably don’t want Nightengale being your voice when trying to downplay Tony La Russa’s second DUI, a charge that was made the day before he was officially hired by the White Sox in late October. But hey, Bob definitely tried to make this a non-story in his classic Bob Nightengale way…as cringey as possible.
NBC Sports Chicago released its latest White Sox Talk Podcast Wednesday morning and holy shit were Nightengale’s comments as bad as you can imagine.
Nightengale – “there are a lot worse things than a manager being pulled over for suspicion of a DUI.”
What the hell does this even mean?

Subscribe to the Pinwheels and Ivy Show, a White Sox vs. Cubs podcast made for Chicago fans.
Chuck Garfien – “so could Tony La Russa have to spend a night in jail during spring training or even a regular season game?”
Bob Nightengale – “Well David Ross missed the first 3 games of the season with the flu.”
Can’t. Make. This. Up.

Embarrassing. Nightengale is awful, but laughing off a DUI and then comparing La Russa possibly missing a game because HE’S IN JAIL to David Ross missing the first three spring training games because he had the flu is unbelievable.

It’s been a shit-show for the White Sox the second La Russa was even considered as the next manager and things keep getting more embarrassing. Now, you have Jerry’s stooge making a complete joke of himself trying to cover for the team that has received deserved criticism.
By the way, still no statements from anyone in a leadership position on the White Sox since the story has been out.
