Austin Reed Had By Far The Funniest Victory Speech In Bears History

-

The Chicago Bears quarterback room was center stage throughout this season of Hard Knocks. Caleb Williams was obviously the focal point as the #1 overall pick. However, guys like Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien got their chances to shine. However, the one who may have stolen the show is undrafted rookie Austin Reed. It started when he had the best music performance of any rookie in front of the team an episode earlier. The kid has a pretty good voice. He then helped his case further by leading two touchdown drives in the second half of the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet the best moment was saved for the closing minutes of the game. Reed went out to run the victory formation. Before that he made a speech to the guys in the huddle.

It was easily one of the funniest a Bears quarterback has ever given.

Austin Reed is an incredibly likable young man.

Before heading out to the huddle, he was seen thanking offensive coordinator Shane Waldron for believing in him enough to give him the opportunity in Chicago. That is the sign of somebody who was raised right. His personality is infectious. Unfortunately, Austin Reed was cut on Tuesday along with Rypien, signaling the Bears would roll with two quarterbacks during the season. Still, it wouldn’t be surprising if they brought him back on the practice squad. He did enough to earn that chance. One thing is for sure. His teammates would probably love to have him stick around. That sense of humor and self-awareness is always great for the locker room.

No one is afraid of a guy that can’t walk, “Scoob.”

But Braxton Jones (and his agent) now know “the score” at Halas Hall.

Left tackles get paid in this league — and Amegadjie is on the roster as proof that neither Teven nor Braxton are going to be “Bears for life.”

I still say Payton Wilson could be the cheaper version of Tremaine Edmunds — Is Kiran Amegadjie a less expensive Darnell Wright?

I don’t think so.

Kiran was another 3rd-round overpay — by a “perpetual rookie” GM.

Some of those fat OL guys only play when it’s time to get paid. I watched Trent Brown do it with the Pats for a couple years. Some are necessity signings that are more likely at initial hiring to plug the big cracks. There will always be risky signings, NFL-Now Fat Lazy once they get rich. Eddie Goldman? Haynesworth? Poles and Eberlus have brought stability. How much do the Giants and Steelers currently have? Say what you will about Khan, he just lit a fuse in his locker room once the losses come with the 2 least self aware QBs… Read more »

@David & @Dr. Steven Sallie — I couldn’t agree more. I remain a “harsh critic” of GM Ryan Poles (fot overdrafting players like: Velus Jones Jr., Gervon Dexter Sr., Zacch Pickens and Kiran Amegadjie, etc.). But, Poles has brought in some really impressive individuals (the prime exception being Nate Davis) that are teammates we’d all love to have. Conspicuously absent from the Hard Knocks’ cameras has been “my guy” O-line coach Chris “C-Mo” Morgan. Assistant O-line coach Jason Houghtaling made a cameo appearance — but I’d love to have seen how well Morgan “works” with the Bears OL. The coaches… Read more »

As I stated over a month ago, the Bears have four QBs–best ever. Now let’s keep Reed and Bagent for years.

What happened to us being in QB poverty? All 4 QBs played well this preseason and they are all really likeable guys.

From watching Hard Knocks, I loved how they were all in a competition with one another, but at the same time they were all each other’s biggest fans.
