Caleb Williams Made A Stunning Sacrifice In 7th Grade That Predicted His NFL Rise

-

One thing that has been apparent for years is that people keep questioning Caleb Williams‘ commitment to the game of football. This stems from multiple angles. Primarily, it stems from the perception that he is more focused on external interests, such as fashion and business opportunities. This is a reputation Williams has constantly fought against for years. It followed him all the way into the NFL, with some questioning if he should’ve been the #1 overall pick in 2024 over “more dedicated” players like Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye.

The truth has always been far different. Williams made the decision at an early age that pursuing the NFL was what he wanted to do. His father, Carl Williams, told him that if this was true, then he would have to commit to it 100%. That meant putting in lots of extra hours to train his body and mind for the challenges high-level football would present. Williams’ parents wondered how seriously their son would take it. They found out during his 7th grade year of middle school. Mr. Williams discovered that Caleb was texting a girl late one night, who wanted the young man to come over to her house.

Now, almost any self-respecting pre-teen would’ve pounced on that opportunity. Not Williams. He turned down the invitation, and his reason confirmed just how serious he was about his goals.

Caleb Williams knew his priorities from the beginning.

What’s that great quote from the movie I Think I Love My Wife with Chris Rock? ‘You can lose lots of money chasing women, but you will never lose women chasing money.’ Williams might’ve had interest in girls at that time, but he was smart enough to realize, even then, that he couldn’t afford distractions. Every available hour must be spent preparing to reach the NFL. If his relationships with the opposite sex might have to wait a few years, then so be it. You can’t say the decision didn’t work.

Williams was recruited to Oklahoma as a top high school prospect and quickly won the job as a freshman. From there, he claimed a Heisman trophy in 2022 and built himself into the #1 overall pick by the end of 2023. Now he’s a division title winner, led one of the greatest comebacks in NFL playoff history, and is ranked as one of the ten best quarterbacks in football. That doesn’t just randomly happen for anybody. It happens when someone has the talent and puts in the work.

Williams has kept his word.

He has stated from the beginning that the only thing that matters to him is winning Super Bowls. It is the next goal on his list. One was to win the Heisman. The next was to go #1 overall in the draft. Now he’s chasing Tom Brady’s all-time record of seven Super Bowl titles. While that one will almost certainly remain out of reach, his sheer determination to reach the mountaintop can no longer be questioned. Caleb Williams might be a bit quirky in some ways, but find a great quarterback that wasn’t in years past.

How bad do they want it? That is the question every team must ask about a quarterback. Justin Fields and Mitch Trubisky may not have been the guys, but nobody questioned their commitment. The same is true with Williams. It’s just that he has a keener feel for playing the position than any quarterback the Bears have had in at least a decade, probably longer. Don’t buy into the ongoing media narrative. Williams is 100% fully committed. He has been since he was a kid.
