Oh baby! Forget about the Home Run Derby; the real fireworks on Monday night were popping off on Twitter, where it appears as though longtime Chicago baseball reporter Bruce Levine accidentally posted a private text meant for Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell. The mistake becomes much more scandalous because in the post, Levine seems to be talking shit about the team’s front office.
The Cubs are 54-42 at the All-Star break, a great achievement considering the volume of pitching injuries that struck the team in the first half. Counsell, who isn’t the cup of tea for many fans, should be praised for the job he’s done so far in 2026, especially when things looked dire in the middle of June.
On Monday night, Levine tweeted out the following:
“You and the coaches have been the stars of the team being 12 games over .500.”

Nice message for the skipper, but it didn’t stop there!
“Hope twinke dee and twinke dum don’t sell you guys out like the 2025. Enjoy the family time pal.”
Oh, so you guys weren’t the only ones who hated that Michael Soroka trade last summer, huh???
Wow! Bruce is pretty much throwing Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins under the bus, talking about what they did or didn’t do to get the Cubs help last trade deadline in a message that was supposed to be through text. But instead, the old man had trouble with technology and tweeted that out to the public. He later deleted the post on Twitter, but not before Cubs fans saw it.
The poor grammar, spacing, typos- this was 100% Bruce fucking up and sending that on Twitter when it was meant to be only for Counsell’s eyes. Kind of makes you think how much more trash talk Levine does in private about Jed and the front office.
Levine eventually deleted his post about 34 minutes later.
I cannot wait for Jed’s next press conference, with Bruce standing right next to him.
