Who Will Be The 2017 Bears QB? Here’s Who All The Experts Predict

chicago bears qb prediction

Anytime a long-tenured starting quarterback is about to leave, it creates a vacuum. One where speculation and rumor swirl like a mighty maelstrom during a hurricane. In it, fans can’t tell which direction is which. The wind is howling from every direction and all they have is basic instinct to navigate by. It is this reality that Chicago Bears faithful have suddenly been dropped into.

After eight seasons the Jay Cutler experiment is finally at an end. With the leaked announcement that the team would try to trade him this offseason, it’s apparent GM Ryan Pace finally plans to make his move at the quarterback position. Cutler will depart Chicago with a 52-52 record. A fitting testament to his up-and-down career with the Bears.

All eyes are turned towards the future and incessantly ask the question. Who will be next? The options appear plentiful but there is no certainty as to what this regime has planned. All they know for sure is that “everything is on the table” as Pace put it. In other words the QB solution can come from anywhere. It’s a matter of timing and luck.

So who will it be?

Cubs Fans Are Making Spring Training Games Feel Like The Real Deal

Baseball is back, baby!

The defending World Series champions began their spring training schedule on Saturday, with two split-squad games against the Oakland Athletics and San Francisco Giants. Just like last year, the Chicago Cubs are on their way to setting an attendance record in the Cactus League. The game against Oakland was a sellout at Sloan Park and despite the calendar reading Feb. 25, players felt like they were in a regular-season game because of the atmosphere.

This was certainly a reason why Cubs fans were especially pumped up for the first spring training game.

Even before the game started, Cubs fans poured in around the park to get a glimpse of the defending World Series champions.

Nearly 15,000 fans filled Sloan Park on Saturday afternoon, and Mike Montgomery was definitely pumped up. The lefty is competing for the fifth spot in the rotation along with fellow left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson.

Montgomery was on the mound for the final out of the World Series in 2016, and he was the first to pitch for the Cubs in 2017. In both occasions, the crowds were great, despite one being in a spring training game.

It wasn’t only Montgomery who felt the presence of the fans, as A’s pitcher Jesse Hahn echoed the same.

Awesome stuff.

As far as the game goes, Charcer Burks, great name, hit the game-winning home run in the seventh inning for the Cubs to beat the A’s.

He also made this catch the very next inning.

Baseball is back. That’s all that matters.

Weird Fact May Prove 2017 QB Class Was Made For The Bears

chicago bears quarterback draft

At this point the Chicago Bears are looking for any edge they can get in order to find a quarterback. Not just any quarterback either. One who can finally put a stop to decades of misery and mediocrity at the most important position in pro football. A position that has routinely held this franchise back from its rightful place among the NFL elite.

It’s not something GM Ryan Pace is taking lightly. Odds are that’s because it’s a decision that has destroyed many others who have held his job in years past. Whatever player he picks, or doesn’t pick for that matter, could determine both the outcome of this franchise for the next decade and his place as an executive in the entire league.

Will he be a Ted Thompson (Aaron Rodgers) and John Schneider (Russell Wilson) or the next Gene Smith (Blaine Gabbert) and Ray Farmer (Johnny Manziel)? No doubt he’s going to do his homework on this upcoming draft class. Not going to leave anything to chance. When it comes time to make a decision, he’ll want to know everything.

The name Zach Azzanni was a complete unknown to NFL fans everywhere just a week ago. He was enjoying a quiet but fulfilling existence as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator for the Tennessee Volunteers. Almost out of nowhere he received a call and request from the Chicago Bears. He’d had no advanced warning about it and wasn’t sure what it was all about.

Turns out they were interested in making him their next receivers coach. According to the Knoxville New Sentinel, Azzanni was absolutely blindsided when he got word that the Bears were interested.

To say Zach Azzanni was surprised by the interest from the Chicago Bears would be an understatement.

The University of Tennessee wide receivers coach had no clue he was even on any NFL radars.

“Hell yeah, I was shocked. Absolutely,” Azzanni said late Wednesday night. “I was all full speed, throttle down for next season here. That thing came and kind of staggered me a little bit.”

Indeed it was also somewhat of a shock to the NFL media and Bears fans. Most had expected the team to explore the pro ranks for their next solution. Somebody with experience who could help further the development of young guys like Cameron Meredith and Kevin White. When word hit that it Azzanni, people were left scrambling for an idea of who he was.

Anthony Morrow Finds Out Quickly That Bulls Fans Are Fucking Idiots

For the second time this season, Chicago Bulls fans have bitched so much, forcing a player to change his jersey number. First, it was Michael Carter-Williams and now it’s one of the newest members on the Bulls, Anthony Morrow.

After being traded to the Bulls by the Oklahoma City Thunder along with Cameron Payne and Joffrey Lauvergne, Morrow picked out his new jersey number. With the Thunder he was No. 2 and before Friday night Morrow was No. 1 with the Bulls.

And just like Carter-Williams back in October, Morrow quickly learned about the insane Derrick Rose fans because before the night was over, Morrow decided to change his jersey number after a constant flow of bitching.

How dare someone wear, “Derrick Rose’s number!”

The fact he felt the need to apologize is embarrassing. What the fuck is wrong with these fans? What are they holding on to?

By no means do I hate Derrick Rose. He was the reason the Bulls ever had a chance at competing in the Eastern Conference since 1998. Youngest MVP in league history. That was all great. But who are we kidding? Why do some feel the need to project something that doesn’t exist? Why are people acting like players have the audacity to come to Chicago and ask for the No. 23?

Did I miss the time Rose led the Bulls to a championship and that’s why fans are so mad that other players would ever dare to wear No. 1? That’s like Cubs fans getting pissed off because someone wants to wear the No. 34, because Kerry Wood used to wear it.

AND IT’S THE SECOND TIME TO HAPPEN IN ONE SEASN!

You know what, earlier I stumbled upon this on Facebook.

Yeah, I was laughing too, but you’d be shocked by how many people argued yes. Anyway, after this show of bullshit by fans the Bulls might as well retire No. 1 because every player is going to be scared off by fans if they pick it.

So, what’s next? No one is allowed to wear the No. 2 because Eddy Curry is from Chicago and he played for the Bulls. Or, no one can wear No. 2 because Nate Robinson had a crazy fourth quarter in the playoffs one time.

This garbage makes Bulls fans look bad.

Move the fuck on.

Devin Booker Chokes, Misses Game-Winning Free Throw, Bulls Win In OT

After Jimmy Butler scored five straight points, including a go-ahead jumper with 9.1 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns had a chance to beat the Chicago Bulls on Friday night. However, the second-year guard choked.

Dwyane Wade was called for a shooting foul on Booker, with less than two seconds left in the fourth quarter. Booker stepped up to the free throw line, down two points with a chance to win the game for the Suns. All night, Phoenix struggled from the line, but Booker calmly knocked down the first two free throws to tie the game at 108.

Then, Booker felt the pressure.

The game went into overtime and it was all Chicago in the final five minutes.

Wade and Butler took their turns picking the Suns apart in overtime, leading to a 128-121 win. The Bulls are now 29-29.

This Mammoth Brute Is The Bears’ Solution To Offensive Tackle Problem

Hall of Fame head coach Bill Parcells had a great saying. “You are what your record says you are.” Since the Chicago Bears were 3-13 this past season, it’s clear they weren’t a very good team. Granted, injuries played a big role in that. Even so there is a lot of work for them to do if they’re going to have any hope of taking a real swing at playoff contention in 2017.

The positions of greatest need have long since been laid out and dissected. Quarterback tops the list with the defensive secondary and tight end not far behind it. Wide receiver threatens to join the fray depending on what happens in the next couple weeks with Alshon Jeffery. He could leave via free agency, creating an entirely new problem.

One area that hasn’t drawn much discussion of late is the offensive line. Specifically the tackle positions. Part of that is because there are disagreements about its state. Some believe the edge will be sufficient with Charles Leno Jr. and Bobby Massie in place. Others disagree and feel an upgrade should be sought. So who is right?

WATCH: Anthony Rizzo Completely Crushes A Cricket Ball

It’s not everyday that you get to see a World Series champion completely crush a cricket ball on a baseball field so let me do you a favor and show you what it looks like.

Members of the US National Cricket team paid a visit to the Cubs Spring Training home on the same day that the World Series trophy was in the city of Mesa. The cricket team members were lucky enough to get to take a few cuts during BP which appeared to be much more difficult then swinging a cricket bat that they are used to.

I don’t know the first thing about cricket so I won’t get into strategy or technique of swinging a cricket bat because I literally have no clue about anything cricket related. The only thing I know about cricket is the pitcher delivering the ball in a sort of crow hop/fast pitch softball approach and the hitters using a bat that looks like a paddle that you get if you join a frat in college (or a paddle you got whacked with if you went to a Catholic school.)

After the cricket dudes were done making a fool of themselves with a baseball bat, they invited Anthony Rizzo to trade in his baseball bat and threw him a few cricket pitches and let him try to hit the ball with a cricket bat.

Unlike the cricket dudes, Rizzo didn’t miss a beat with his new bat.

I’m glad to see Rizzo is an equal opportunity killer of any type of pitches that are thrown his way.

BULL…..CRAP

bulls trade jimmy butler timberwolves necessary survival

It’s a tough time to be a Chicago Bulls fan.

It’s hard to sum up our collective frustration, particularly on the heels of such a disheartening trade. You know what happened: Taj & McDermott are gone and there’s little to show for it. The cruelest part is that some of us approached this deadline with actual hope. Maybe the Bulls would do something smart? Something exciting? Something that suggested confidence or leadership or vision? Nope. Nope. And Nope.

Gar Forman “managed” the trade deadline like an incoherent drunk at a bar, stumbling around blindly a minute before closing, looking for someone to go home with. He didn’t have the charm or skill to attract any of his desired targets, so he grabbed desperately for whatever’s easiest. And as fans, we all wake the next day to a pounding headache, marked by disorientation, self-loathing and a bit of sadness.

So where are we now?

Our Bulls, one of the most respected franchises in the history of professional sports, sit mired in mediocrity, chaos and controversy, without a clear sense of direction – on the court or in the front office. It’s hard to believe that just a few short years ago, our badass Bulls were easily among the best teams in the league with the organizational arrow pointing straight to the sky.

Now, where are our once-proud Bulls? Flat-lining at .500 for a second consecutive season. And where exactly are we headed? Battling the Bucks for the 8th seed in the East? Slipping by the Sixers? That’s no way to treat a fan base.

Yet, we remain loyal. Patient. But instead of rewarding our trust, GarPax vomited up another head-scratcher, turning a beloved Vet and a fan favorite into a dancing hair piece and some expiring filler. Oh, and the Bulls gave up a pick in the deal, because, why not? The front office doesn’t know how to evaluate talent anyway.

Can anything be salvaged from this season? How long do we hold our breath for Holberg to “get it”? What can the Bulls hope to achieve with this Frankenstein’s monster of a roster? And what the hell happened to our once enviable core? The answers are as varied as the questions, with no clear outcome in sight.

After all, to achieve a goal don’t you have to be able to articulate that goal?

Yes, of course, sure. The front office must want to win as badly as we fans want to root for a winner. (I mean, they must, right? RIGHT??) But do the decision makers know how to win? Recent evidence isn’t exactly encouraging. When you think about it, who is even left to really root for?

Remember Rose slashing through the lane, provoking gasps of pride and astonishment? Remember Noah’s howls of passion and scraped elbows, willing his brothers to victory? Remember Thibs, prowling the sidelines, preaching perfection, demanding defense? Remember Deng, leading with class, leaving it all on the court?  Korver, reigning threes, delivering “the hot sauce”?  The Bench Mob, our band-of-brothers, laying waste to second units across the land?

Remember those Chicago Bulls? I bet you do.

I understand loyalty is overrated. That you can’t hold onto heroes forever. That every player, every coach, every team has an expiration date; due to injuries, declining skills, soaring salaries or behind-the-scenes bickering. I get it. But you can’t trade all your dollars for quarters and expect to come out on top. And you can’t just toss away fan favorites and expect an educated, passionate fan base to just ’take it’ or ’trust the process’.

At some point you have to do more than just luck into late draft picks. Jimmy Butler’s a great player and an awesome story of aspiration and effort. I’m psyched to root for him. How long will he remain a Bull? Taj is a consummate pro that did everything the organization ever asked of him, and then some. Now he’s gone. I even liked McDermott and was excited to see him develop. Who will be surprised when he leads the league in 3pt % one day? Not me.

Unfortunately, as we’ve watched this organization make decisions over the past several seasons I can’t help but wonder if the train will ever get back on track.

My sense, from the stands, is that the front office is guessing. The organization currently has the feel of a gambler, deep in the hole, desperately doubling down time and again. Decisions have been made emotionally and without a coherent philosophy. Personal relationships have taken precedence over personnel evaluations. Hurt feelings and egos have been weighted more heavily than team chemistry, athleticism or advanced metrics. And the result is a team that feels less like a bunch of Bulls stampeding down Madison Avenue than a field full of confused cows, staring at each other, wondering who will fix this mess.

Change starts at the top.

Where the Bulls define “the top” is the real question and until it’s answered, Chicago’s ship will remain adrift at sea. The shore, and success, nowhere in sight.

Blackhawks Acquire F Tomas Jurco From Detroit For 3rd Round Pick

The Chicago Blackhawks have made a deal with their old Original Six nemesis Friday afternoon.

The Blackhawks have acquired forward Tomas Jurco from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a third-round pick. Forward Vinnie Hinostroza was also sent down to Rockford in a corresponding move.

The 24-year-old right winger has played in only 16 games this season and has yet to record a point. Jurco hasn’t played for the Wings since Feb. 9. The 2011 second-round pick has scored 15 goals and tallied 39 total points in 159 games with the Red Wings.

This is certainly a low-risk, potentially high-reward deal for Chicago. Jurco has been regarded as a highly-touted prospect, but might require a change of scenery. ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun reports the Blackhawks had targeted Jurco for quite a while.

“I’ve always thought he had a little bit more skill than what we have seen from him,” one scout told ESPN’s Craig Custance.

Jurco is on the final year of his two-year contract and Detroit did not retain any of his salary. CapFriendly reports Jurco has $220,000 in remaining daily cap hit. Chicago still has a little more than $2.285 million in salary cap space after the deal.

This sort of move has worked before for the Hawks. Look no further than Richard Panik, who was traded to Chicago in Jan. 2016 for the infamous Jeremy Morin. Panik has since found a role along the first line and is fifth on the team with 16 goals this season.

It’s uncertain whether the Blackhawks will attempt to make another deadline splash. They’ve gone 8-1 in the month of February and appear to be catching fire with a balanced attack spread out across all four lines. It’s uncertain where exactly Jurco will slot in once he arrives in Chicago, whose next game is Sunday against the St. Louis Blues.
