The Cubs Have The Dodgers Right Where They Want Them, Down 3-0 In The NLCS

Sure, scoring a total of four runs in three games isn’t good and walking the opposing pitcher with two outs and the bases loaded isn’t ideal and neither is being a loss away from elimination, but the Chicago Cubs have the Los Angeles Dodgers right where they want them, down 3-0 in the NLCS.

Yes, it’s true that despite having a lead in each of the first three games on home runs, the Cubs have proceeded to give up those leads and lose. But hey, even after a 6-1 loss, the Cubs have the Dodgers exactly where they want them.

Well, not exactly. I mean, yeah it’d be nice if the Cubs were actually up 3-0 and a win away from going to the World Series again, but you gotta work with what you have. What the Cubs have right now is Jake Arrieta going in Game 4. Win that and then it’s Jose Quintana. Get it to 3-2 and oh baby we have Jon Lester on the bump. Get through Game 6 and you already know the saying, anything can happen in Game 7.

Obviously the Cubs offense has to produce more than one or two runs and hey maybe Joe Maddon actually starts Ian Happ, or Dodgers pitchers stop being really good.

Anyway, can the Cubs reach a Game 7? Why not. You thought they were dead multiple times last year. OK, fine, I know it’s not 2016 anymore, but you’ve still witnessed this team, this year, overcome adversity.

The Cubs Have The Indians Right Where They Want Them, Down 3-1 In The World Series

It’s OK, you laughed it off then and you can laugh it off again right now.

But remember, Arrieta Game 4, Quintana Game 5, Lester Game 6 and anything can happen Game 7.

Bears Fan Enters Legendary Status With This Classroom Stunt

bears fan

A lot of people take joy in making fun of what it means to be a Chicago Bears fan. Saturday Night Live did that for years back in the 1980s. We were type cast as overweight slobs who constantly said “da” instead of “the.” The joke was on them of course. Bears fans embraced the hate and “Da Bears” became their rallying cry ever since. In truth for the most part the people are no different than the average folk.

They’re passionate, loyal, demanding and better educated than many realize. Okay well most of them are. At least one gentleman decided that playing a prank on his college class room was more important than getting an actual education. Truth be told though the man deserves all sorts of praise for having the guts to do this.

It’s unclear which college this takes place at but one thing is known for sure. The guy was an uncompromising Bears fan. He walked right into the middle of class dawning a snappy navy blue Mitch Trubisky jersey. Stopping in the front he doesn’t even wait to allow people to process what’s happening and does the most college (and Chicago) thing ever.

Given from what he said this took place shortly before the Bears played Baltimore last Sunday. The shotgunning of the beer alone is pure gold, but the icing on the cake had to be him slamming the empty can on his head before walking out the door. Given Chicago won as result, you know what that means.

He has to do this every week until they lose. We approve this 100%.

REPORT: Bobby Portis Involved In Fight That Led To Nikola Mirotic Being Hospitalized

bulls side bobby portis feud nikola mirotic

The Bulls season is already crazy and a game hasn’t been played. Bobby Portis and Nikola Mirotic reportedly got into a fight that led to Mirotic being hospitalized.

Here are more details from Yahoo Sports.

Mirotic was taken to the hospital Tuesday after their shoving altercation during practice ended with an alleged cheap shot from Portis to Mirotic’s face, league sources told The Vertical. Mirotic is undergoing tests, but is expected to be out for the foreseeable future, league sources said.

Incredible.

K.C. Johnson, who covers the Bulls beat for the Chicago Tribune, confirmed the report.

It was so bad that Mirotic has a bone fracture in his face.

And here’s the official statement from the Bulls.

Mitch Trubisky Cracks Top 5 of Best Throws From Week Six

mitch trubisky throw

Chicago Bears fans could almost count every Mitch Trubisky throw he completed in Baltimore on one hand. That may not sound good but the reality says otherwise. The rookie was asked to do two things on Sunday. Make a couple completions when needed and protect the football. This he did with remarkable self-control the entire game.

Baltimore is not an easy place for any quarterback to play. Let alone a rookie. Ravens coach John Harbaugh was a perfect 12-0 against rookies in that building prior to that game. The Bears didn’t drop back to pass much and it’s probably a good thing. Trubisky was sacked four times and under duress on a number of his other throws.

What stood out about him were his poise and ability to not lose his edge when called upon to make a play. He threw the ball away six times on the day rather than force it into tight coverage. Hence why he had only 50% completions and 113 yards. However when the time came for him to deliver a big play, he delivered. Seems the NFL took notice. (continue to next page)

Kyle Hendricks Starting Game 3 Of The NLCS Is All The Momentum The Cubs Need vs. The Dodgers

Even though he gave up two home runs in Game 5 of the NLDS against the Washington Nationals, there is still no other pitcher that I feel more confident in starting an important postseason game than Kyle Hendricks for the Chicago Cubs.

Right now the outlook is bleak for the Cubs, who are down 2-0 in the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but Hendricks is on the mound for Game 3 and his presence alone should help calm any uneasy feelings. Why? Just look at the numbers.

While Joe Maddon hasn’t always had the most confidence in Hendricks during the playoffs, the right-hander has remained unfazed by the magnitude of postseason baseball. In nine playoff starts, Hendricks has a 2.60 ERA, with the Cubs winning six of those nine games. That includes his impressive 7.1 inning performance in Game 6 of the NLCS last year, when the Cubs won the NL pennant and advanced to the World Series.

We’ve already witnessed his brilliance this postseason, throwing seven shutout innings in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Nationals. Now, after the first two games against the Dodgers we know that the overall pitching hasn’t been a problem for the Cubs. Jose Quintana and Jon Lester gave up a total of three runs. However, those two only combined for 9.2 innings.

With the struggles of Mike Montgomery and inconsistency of Carl Edwards Jr., it is absolutely imperative that Hendricks goes deep in Game 3 to avoid uncomfortable decisions that may pop up for Joe Maddon. So, just make it easy for everyone watching, and pitch nine shutout innings, Kyle. Thanks.

Of course I feel great about Hendricks facing the Dodgers, but none of it matters if the Cubs can’t score early against Yu Darvish. Must score early before Dave Roberts goes to the LA bullpen, or once again the Cubs will be at a disadvantage.

With that in mind, the Cubs have a new look in their starting lineup.

Javier Baez is out, Ben Zobrist is in, Kyle Schwarber is batting second and Jon Jay isn’t leading off. Bryzzo is 3-4, so changes were made now it’s up to the players to execute.

For more in-depth analysis on what the Cubs need to do to win, consider the following.

There’s Only One Thing The Cubs Need To Do To Comeback And Win The NLCS

Joe Maddon Loads Up On Left-Handed Hitters For Game 3 Of NLCS

Joe Maddon hinted at the change earlier in the day and now it’s official. Down 2-0 in the NLCS, the Chicago Cubs face Yu Darvish and the Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday night at Wrigley Field with a lineup full of left-handed hitters.

After not starting in either of the first two games in Los Angeles, Ben Zobrist returns to the Cubs lineup. The veteran replaces Javier Baez at second base. Baez, who a year ago was named co-MVP in the NLCS, is 0-for-19 in seven games this postseason.

Meanwhile, Kyle Schwarber, Jon Jay and Jason Heyward make up the outfield.

There’s no surprise why Maddon has gone to more lefties, as Darvish’s splits tell you that’s the way to go.

Darvish vs. lefties: .262/.325/.453, 16 HRs

Darvish vs. righties: .194/.259/.341, 11 HRs

However, what matters most is how the star duo of Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo perform because so far it’s been putrid, combining to go 9-for-54, with 22 strikeouts through seven playoff games.

Game 3 starts at 8 p.m. at Wrigley Field.

Ryan Pace Personal Background Reveals Likely Plan to Reload WRs

ryan pace

Chicago Bears GM Ryan Pace has done a fine job rebuilding his team. There were plenty of bumps along the way and probably more are still to come. Nevertheless the team looks like it’s younger and more talented than they’ve been in years. The defense is running and hitting with ferocity. Jordan Howard and the offensive line are grinding opponents into submission. They even have a new quarterback that looks like the real deal.

If there is one area that he’s failed to properly reload, it’s wide receiver. Brandon Marshall was traded. Alshon Jeffery left in free agency. Kevin White has become a bust. In fairness most of the Pace moves have flopped to this point not because of talent but health. White and Cameron Meredith suffered season-ending injuries. Markus Wheaton can’t stay healthy either.

It’s clear he has some reshuffling to do on that part of the depth chart. With Trubisky in town that timetable has accelerated. Can he retool the unit quickly? How will he do it? The answer to those questions lay, as with most GMs, in his background. (continue to next page)

John Fox Is Latest To Betray His Mitch Trubisky Man Crush

john fox

Understand that John Fox is old school. He’s 62-years old and was raised in the NFL by the late, great Chuck Noll. That was a man known for being more about logic and less about emotion when it came to players. He didn’t praise or criticize much. He instead focused on helping players to find ways on how they could improve from one game to the next. Fox is a bit more laid back than Noll was, but he carries on a similar tradition.

He’ll say if a player played well. He’ll say if he needs to correct some things. This is how he believes a head coach is supposed to operate. Never give the players too much of either side. Praise them but make it clear they can be better. Criticize them but remind that they know how to play this game better than most.

However, every so often a certain player comes along that those traditional rules don’t apply to. Somebody who just has something about them. An infectious personality and charisma that gets people feeling better about the team and themselves. Not even the coaches are immune to it, and now Fox has fallen victim too. (continue to next page)
