White Sox Unexpectedly Promote Top Pitching Prospect To MLB

-

The White Sox are going full steam ahead with their youth movement. Just days after calling up top-catching prospect Kyle Teel, the organization has made another aggressive promotion. Right-handed pitcher Grant Taylor is coming to the big leagues, per James Fox of FutureSox. According to Fox’s report, Taylor will join the team in Houston for their upcoming series against the Astros.

Taylor’s Player Profile

Taylor, 23, was the organization’s second-round pick in 2023 and currently ranks as the #6 prospect in the White Sox farm system per MLB.com. He features a five-pitch mix, headlined by a fastball that reaches over 100 MPH. He also has a devastating slider and curveball as part of his repertoire. Taylor has dominated since entering professional baseball. While injury issues have limited him to only 46 professional innings since being drafted, he has a pristine 1.57 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 13.5 K/9 over that span.

Dominant 2025 Season

Taylor had spent the entire 2025 season up to this with the Double-A Birmingham Barons, where he dominated. Across 26.2 innings, Taylor recorded a sparkling 1.01 ERA, 0.86 WHIP, and 12.5 K/9. The organization recently transitioned him to the bullpen to monitor his workload, but that has not slowed his momentum. In nine relief appearances, Taylor has yet to allow a run while striking out an absurd 18 batters while walking just one. He has become even more dominant since transitioning to the bullpen, which is impressive considering how good he was as a starter.

Aggressive Promotion

The White Sox promotion of Taylor to the big leagues at this juncture is aggressive to say the least. He does not have much minor league experience and will skip the Triple-A level entirely as a result of this development. Still, he has dominated the minors and the organization has shown that they are not afraid to call up players whenever they deem them ready.

Even with his inexperience, Taylor will likely occupy a high-leverage role in the White Sox bullpen. He dominated in spring training, proving that his stuff plays against MLB-level hitters. The bullpen has been the most significant weakness on the White Sox roster all season. Even with the team still rebuilding, Taylor should provide some stability at the end of games once he settles in.

White Sox Youth Movement In Full Swing

Calling up Grant Taylor is another example of the White Sox allowing fans to get a sneak peek of the future. The organization has not yet closed the door on him becoming a starting pitcher, but he will start his career as a flamethrower in the bullpen, similar to Chris Sale and Garrett Crochet. There have been rumors of Taylor potentially getting the call to Chicago, and now those rumors are reality. It is time to buckle up. Grant Taylor is coming.
