The White Sox didn’t want to guarantee Manny Machado $300 million, so the star free agent chose to sign a deal with the Padres instead. And if Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn trying to explain why they fell short wasn’t even more infuriating, there’s another piece of bad news for the White Sox.
Outfield prospect Luis Basabe is out of action for 4-6 weeks and won’t play for a while after breaking a bone in his hand during batting practice on Monday. Hahn revealed the news during his media session on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old outfielder was part of the Chris Sale trade with the Red Sox. In 2018, Basabe slashed .258/.354/.445, in 119 games at Single and Double-A.
Sox trade Sale to start rebuild. Four players in return to build around, and the promise of spending in free agency.
