The White Sox added some depth to their left-handed pitching, claiming 30-year-old Josh Osich off waivers from the Orioles. He was drafted by the Giants in 2011 and made his MLB debut with San Francisco in 2015.
Along with Osich’s acquisition, the White Sox officially placed right-hander Michael Kopech on the 60-day injured list. That’s just a procedural move, as Kopech will miss the 2019 season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Osich pitched in 12 games for the Giants in 2018, posting an 8.25 ERA in 12 innings. The lefty has a career 5.01 ERA in 120.1 MLB innings. He was actually pretty good during his rookie year in 2015, when he threw 28.2 innings and recorded a 2.20 ERA in 35 games.

He’s a lot better against left-handed hitters, allowing a slash line of .231/.333/.402 against them in the past three seasons compared to .314/.415/.524 against right-handed hitters.
Osich was a sixth round pick out of Oregon State by the Giants. He appeared in 160 games from 2015-18, before San Francisco DFA’d him in February. The Orioles picked him up off waivers and now he’s found a new home with the White Sox after Baltimore DFA’d him a few days ago.
The White Sox 40-man roster is currently at 40 players.
