The White Sox have been playing better baseball as of late, as they look to sweep the Los Angeles Angels today and improve their record to 14-17. This would put them in striking distance of a .500 record, something that has eluded the White Sox for quite a long time.
This improved play has come from a huge start from Munetaka Murakami, as he currently is the MLB homerun leader. However, Everson Pereira, Miguel Vargas, and Colson Montgomery have all made significant contributions as well. This is good to see, as there were a ton of question marks about all those players just a year ago.
Now, a new name will look to shake some of his own question marks, as according to the White Sox and lan Eskridge of Future Sox, the White Sox will be calling up former top-100 prospect, Jarred Kelenic. Unfortunately, this means that there is an IL stint coming for Pereira, as he left yesterday’s game with an injury.
Prior to today’s series finale vs. Los Angeles-AL, the Chicago White Sox placed outfielder Everson Pereira on the 10-day injured list with a right pectoral strain and selected the contract of outfielder Jarred Kelenic from Class AAA Charlotte.

However, for Kelenic, this is a fresh start with a new organization, as he has had success in the major leagues at one point, and was a highly touted prospect. After signing with the White Sox, Kelenic did not make the roster out of Spring Training, and he started off the season 0 for 19 with the Charlotte Knights.
He has since turned that around significantly, as he is now hitting .202 with six homeruns, 18 RBls, and seven stolen bases. This pairs nicely with his .346 OBP and his very good .810 OPS. These numbers are flashes of why he was selected 6th overall in the 2018 draft and was considered a top prospect.
Kelenic’s resurgence could be due to some changes with his swing/stance, as Baseball Unstitched points out below:

It appears that Ryan Fuller and the White Sox have been making some tweaks with Kelenic’s swing, and they seem to be working. If they can fix him, this would be a huge win for the White Sox organization. This seems to be very similar to Miguel Vargas’ swing changes, and we know how that worked out.
Kelenic has never been one to hit for average, but if he can continue to hit for power, take his walks, and steal some bases in the major leagues, he will provide value for the White Sox, who desperately need consistent offensive production.
Kelenic’s most productive MLB season came back in 2023 with the Seattle Mariners, as he hit .253 with 11 homeruns and 49 RBls over 105 games. If he can come anywhere close to those numbers with the White Sox, he will stick around for a while, as the White Sox will figure out a way to keep him on the roster.
The White Sox have found some success working with former top prospects like Everson Pereira recently, so maybe they will be able to recreate that with Kelenic.
