Today Was The Best Day The White Sox Have Had In YEARS

-

Good days have been hard to come by for the White Sox over the last few years. After two straight 100+ loss seasons, including a record 121 losses last season, it felt like dark times would continue on the South Side for the foreseeable future. However, much better days now appear to be on the horizon thanks to several notable developments from today.

Long-Term Ownership Agreement

The team announced this morning that chairman and majority owner Jerry Reinsdorf and minority owner Justin Ishbia “have reached a long-term investment agreement that establishes a framework for Ishbia to obtain a future controlling interest in the White Sox.”

Per the report, nothing will change in the short term. Ishbia will not have the option to acquire Reinsdorf’s controlling interest until after the 2034 season. However, it is worth noting that from 2029 to 2033, Reinsdorf will have the option of selling its controlling interest to Ishbia.

The White Sox press release states that “in no event will such a transaction take place before 2029” and that “the Reinsdorf family will continue to own the controlling interest in the White Sox.” The Ishbia’s will also reportedly make “capital infusions” in 2025 and 2026 to pay down existing team debt and support team operations.

Even though this transition process will not take place for several more years, a plan has emerged. The direction of the franchise is now much more clear moving forward.

CHSN Comcast Agreement

White Sox games will also be accessible to more people moving forward. Chicago Sports Network is expected to launch on Comcast as early as tomorrow, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Xfinity’s Ultimate Tier will reportedly cost an additional $20 a month. The Bulls and Blackhawks are part of this network as well.

White Sox Walk-Off Winner

The product on the field this afternoon matched the good vibes of the day. Sean Burke spun seven innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts, while Chase Meidroth reached base in all five plate appearances. Edgar Quero also collected two hits while Tim Elko had the game-winning walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth, earning a series split with the MLB-best 41-23 Detroit Tigers. The White Sox were competitive against one of the better teams in the league in three out of the four games in the series, a sign of substantial progress from last year.

Kyle Teel Call Up

Kyle Teel is headed to the big leagues as well. Chris Cotillo reported that the White Sox #2 prospect and #26 prospect in MLB was scratched from the Triple-A Charlotte Knights lineup and will join the White Sox for his MLB debut. James Fegan of SoxMachine confirmed Cotillo’s report.

Teel, 23, has had a very strong season in Triple-A. He is slashing .295/.394/.492 with ten doubles, eight home runs, 30 RBI, and seven stolen bases in 50 games. The corresponding move has not yet been announced, but Teel forced the team’s hand and will now get a chance at the highest level.

White Sox Minor League Standouts

The minor leaguers are getting into the action, too. Colson Montgomery hit two home runs for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights tonight. One was a 435-foot home run with an exit velocity of 107.5 MPH, while the other was a 382-foot blast with a 108 MPH exit velocity. Braden Montgomery and Jeral Perez each had a hit and walk for the High-A Winston-Salem Dash. For the Low-A Kannapolis Cannonballers, George Wolkow had two hits, including a homer. Javier Mogollon added two hits of his own.

Final Word

The White Sox have a long way to go before becoming a respectable ballclub again. That process will take time, but each development in the right direction is one step closer to that goal. Today was the best day the organization has had in a long time.

Also the Ishbia’s are aggressive investors. I don’t see them waiting around to 2029 to take over. I see that happening gradually leading up to 2029. This was easily the best news of the day by far

We could have easily taken the series from one of the best teams in the league. You do see some flashes of good things to come from this bunch. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to the tired lot we saw last year. Very happy not to see Robert and Vaughn in the lineup. We just need to avoid the long losing streaks and this could be a better season by more than just a few games. Last year I think we had 3 double digit losing streaks, let’s have none this year boys.
