Well this fucking sucks. Just three days after trading Martin Maldonado to the Astros the Cubs have lost Willson Contreras to a hamstring injury.
The two-time All-Star broke down in tears after exiting Saturday’s game following the seventh inning.
Here’s the play where Contreras immediately got hurt coming out of the batter’s box.
Contreras will have an MRI to determine the severity of his hamstring injury on Monday.
So, Victor Caratini will take on the majority of the playing time behind the plate while Contreras heads to the injured list. The only other catcher on the Cubs 40-man roster is Taylor Davis, who is expected to be called up on Sunday.
Back in 2017, Contreras also suffered a strained hamstring that forced him to miss a month of action.
