Two Cubs Coaches Leave for Other Jobs

-

Andy Green Not Fired by Cubs

So, not that these little details matter all that much, but earlier this month we thought that former Cubs bench coach Andy Green was dismissed along with David Ross following the hiring of new manager Craig Counsell. Well, it turns out that Green left on his own accord and is now working in the front office of the New York Mets.

Joel Sherman, who originally wrote about Green being dismissed, clarified the situation. The Cubs did offer Green a spot to stay with the club, but ultimately chose to go to the Mets.

And just to make it very clear, ESPN’s Jeff Passan also posted about Green not actually being fired after ti was assumed following Sherman’s initial story in the New York Post.

Green, who managed the San Diego Padres from 2016-19, was the Cubs bench coach for Ross’ entire managing tenure in Chicago.

Johnny Washington to the Angels

In addition to Green leaving, assistant hitting coach Johnny Washington is now with the Los Angeles Angels. Washing was one of a few assistant hitting coaches on the Cubs coaching staff, but he’s now getting promoted to the head position under new Angels manager Ron Washington.

Before Washington joined the Cubs in 2022, he was the hitting coach with the Padres from 2017-19, when Green was San Diego’s manager.
