The Boston Red Sox just traded Mookie Betts in what really was a salary dump deal to the Dodgers and if the Cubs do anything close to this with Kris Bryant, then you can just cancel baseball.

At this point, I still don’t see a trade of Bryant getting done. Whether it’s the timing of his grievance case taking forever to come to a conclusion or teams not wanting to give up the high price that the Cubs should be asking for from interested clubs it just doesn’t make much sense.

We’re a week away from spring training and if the goal in a Bryant trade was to get better in the future and use that leftover money to fill holes on the rest of the roster, then it’s too late. All the good players who would have made a significant impact have already signed.

The one team that has been strongly linked to the Cubs in Bryant trade rumors this offseason has been the Braves. However, after that embarrassing trade by the Red Sox last night MLB insider Jon Heyman said things are quiet between Chicago and Atlanta on the trade front.

Meanwhile, Bob Nightengale is pushing that the Phillies and Nationals are somewhat exploring deals for Bryant.

Sooooooo, from November to February, nothing has actually changed in terms of Kris Bryant trade rumors.

According to David Kaplan’s sources, NL teams are calling.

In other words, a trade might happen or it might not! How insightful.

Besides the Braves, Phillies and Nationals another team that has recently been brought up in trade rumors for Bryant were the Rockies. ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported that there discussions about a straight up 1-for-1 trade of Bryant for Nolan Arenado. Yet, those rumors have pretty much died since the end of January.

Again, I just don’t see how it makes sense to trade Bryant NOW and especially not if teams aren’t going to pony up.
