The Cubs enter their final series of the regular season with a one-game lead in the NL Central and not only do they have a chance to clinch the division at Wrigley Field, but they can also eliminate the Cardinals from playoff contention for the second year in a row.

Hopefully Kris Bryant can be a difference maker this weekend and beyond, as the 2016 MVP has been sidelined with a few injuries this season. He was hit on the head back in May against the Rockies that made him miss several games and then a shoulder injury made Bryant go on the DL twice. A few days ago Bryant was taken out early against the Pirates after suffering a bruised wrist from a hit by pitch.

Bryant’s missed the last two games, but he’s back today as the Cubs face Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals. Bryant’s batting sixth, starting in left field, with David Bote getting the start at third base.

The magic number to clinch the division for the Cubs is three. So, a sweep gets it done, or a combination of Cubs wins and Brewers losses that gets to three this weekend. The Brewers end their regular season at home against the Tigers.

The Cardinals are currently one game behind the Dodgers for the second Wild Cad spot.
