Anthony Rizzo Pissed Off Chicago White Sox Fans

-

The Chicago White Sox are riding an amazing wave in the 2026 playoffs, now a win away from advancing to the ALCS for the first time since they won the whole thing in 2005. On Wednesday, White Sox fans will have a chance to watch their beloved South Side team sweep their hated division rival, the Cleveland Guardians.

Not only are the White Sox led by a group of young, exciting players, but how can you not at least feel good for the fan base that just endured three straight 100+ loss seasons, including their 121-loss season in 2024? Munetaka Murakami has been a stud. Grant Taylor is becoming a postseason legend, while Chase Meidroth is living every underdog’s dream.

This team is fun as hell, and former Cubs star Anthony Rizzo wants to see more unity in Chicago.

In the latest episode of the “Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered” podcast, Rizzo made his thoughts clear on the Cubs vs. White Sox rivalry, with the South Siders’ current run top of mind. The Cubs broke their 108-year World Series drought in 2016, beating Cleveland in a classic seven-game series, and Rizzo has always believed that White Sox fans should have felt a little love for that squad.

“I said this all the time, and I stand by it. When we won the World Series in 2016, if you were a White Sox fan and you couldn’t have a little bit of love for that Cubs team, I always said you’re just a miserable fucking person. Because of the drought, and it’s the city of Chicago, and you want the city of Chicago to do well.” -Anthony Rizzo

He brought that up because he now wants Cubs fans to pull for the White Sox as they continue their October march in the postseason. Despite things not ending well during his playing days with the Cubs, Rizzo has returned to the organization and is fully back, serving as a team ambassador since 2025.

The former Cubs first baseman is also thinking about attending Game 3 at Rate Field on Wednesday, when the White Sox will host their first playoff game since 2021.

Unfortunately, Rizzo’s message hasn’t exactly been well received. You’d think that after playing a decade with the Cubs, he would have realized by now that White Sox fans don’t want more support, especially from Cubs fans.

As much as White Sox fans complain about being ignored by local and national media, there is no denying that part of their identity as a fan base is being the underdog, being the second team, being looked over, and next to wanting the White Sox to win, White Sox fans live to hate the Cubs.

So yeah, the online reaction wasn’t as kumbaya as Rizzo probably hoped for. Let’s face it: very few White Sox fans wanted to see the Cubs win in 2016, so being called a miserable person over it was going to rub them the wrong way.

White Sox Fans React to Anthony Rizzo

Here is a sampling of the reactions that Rizzo generated from the podcast clip shared earlier.

Powerful Master (@PowerfulUnit) – This arrogance spreads to even the Cub players. cubs are such attention whores they can’t for one second allow the White Sox to have more sunshine in the city of Chicago.

CALL UP EVERYONE (@realWTGTD) – We may have respected what the 2016 team did but we were all big Indians fans that series lol.

Brandon Kaser (@white_soxfan96) – Well if that makes me a miserable fucking person, then I’ll be a miserable fucking person. FUCK the Cubs, I’ll NEVER root for that pathetic franchise. Shame Cleveland couldn’t hold on to a 3-1 lead. Don’t even bother showing up because if you do, I hope you get boo’d so hard!

Ed (@ChiHighEd) – I will boo this man just like i booed the grifter Ronnie woo woo when he showed up at comiskey. Miss me with this root for the other Chicago team bs. Go back to Florida clown.

Steven Stark (@IronmansCuz9) – Please stay away from the Rate and yea I am a miserable f****** person Rizzo

And it’s not like Cubs fans are joining in fully to support the White Sox either. But what do you think? Is Rizzo correct? Should fans unite in Chicago? Meanwhile, don’t miss out on the Pinwheels And Ivy Podcast!
