Cubs Trade Carl Edwards Jr.

-

Well, hopefully Carl Edwards Jr. can hit the reset button. After a big fall from being once viewed as the next Cubs closer, Edwards suffered a few injuries and lost all confidence on the mound during the past calendar year.

The Cubs have traded the right-hander to the Padres.

Edwards made his MLB debut in 2015. He made 192 appearances with the Cubs, recording a 3.30 ERA and 1.07 WHIP, while striking out 234 batters in 174.1 innings.

In 2019, Edwards was demoted to the minors and did have a good stretch before suffering a back injury. After returning, he struggled and was sent back down to Triple-A. Edwards had a 5.87 ERA in 15.1 innings for the Cubs this year.

Wieck, 27, was a seventh round draft pick in 2014. The lefty has made 35 relief appearances with the Padres, posting a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 31.2 MLB innings. He has struck out 41 batters in his limited time in the big leagues, but Wieck has had issues giving up home runs.
