The Cubs have been relatively lucky with injuries so far in 2020, but the luck is starting to wear off.

After being scratched for game one of Monday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals, outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list because of a hamstring strain in his right leg.

Veteran utility man Hernán Pérez has been called up from South Bend to take Souza’s spot on the active roster. Meanwhile, the Cubs had to make room on the 40-man roster for Pérez, so left-handed reliever Brad Wieck was moved to the 45-day injured list, ending his 2020 regular season.

Souza was 4-for-21, with a home run, five RBIs, three walks and three runs scored in nine games for the Cubs.

Pérez, 29, spent the last five seasons with the Brewers. The right-handed batter has played and started at every position except for catcher during his eight-year career in MLB.
