Throwing at batters on purpose is dumb. Retaliation for one of your guys is also dumb, buuuuuuut I wouldn’t necessarily be mad if Jon Lester plunked Nolan Arenado tonight at Wrigley Field.

The Chicago Cubs begin a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies on Monday and it’s the first time they meet after German Marquez beaned Kris Bryant on the head. Yes, Marquez didn’t intentionally hit Bryant on the head, but the aftermath was terrifying.

This isn’t an exaggeration. The fastball to Bryant’s head could have been career-ending. You think I’m going overboard? Remember Adam Greenberg, who got hit on the very first pitch in his MLB debut?

One pitch to the head ended his MLB career.

So yeah, whenever a player gets hit on the head it’s pretty damn serious no matter the intent.

The Cubs, under Joe Maddon, haven’t gone out there and beaned people on purpose. OK sure, maybe there have been a few times, but all of them have happened for retaliation. We all remember Maddon’s press conference back in 2015, when he bashed the St. Louis Cardinals and said:

“We don’t start stuff, but we will stop stuff. We will end stuff.”

Again, Marquez hitting Bryant didn’t have malice behind it, but you have to imagine that a veteran like Jon Lester will stick up for the star player on the Cubs and if it leads to a fight, fine, even though I think those are really stupid because more bad than good comes from them.

Aside from that, the Cubs have been hit the most out of all 30 MLB teams and it’s by a pretty wide margin. In 25 games the Cubs have been hit 24 times, while the White Sox are second with 18 hit batters. Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are tied for the most HBP with seven.

Enough is enough, right? Maybe it is time the Cubs make a statement, to stop this, to end this.

And you know, watching Nolan Arenado act like a psycho if he got hit again would be pretty hilarious.

Also, have to wonder if Lester would use his glove if he got charged.

By the way, I’m not saying Lester should go head-hunting, but maybe one to the ribs or something. And that’s as meatbally as I’ll go.

Beating the Rockies would be more than enough revenge for me at the end of the day, but again I didn’t have a teammate get drilled on the head, so obviously I don’t know what’s being talked about inside the Cubs clubhouse.
