Julio Jones To Chicago? One Bears Player Is Trying To Make It Happen

-

It isn’t a secret that Justin Fields needs more weapons if he will become a viable quarterback this 2022 season. Thus far, GM Ryan Poles hasn’t made any notable moves at wide receiver. That will have to change at some point. They only have Darnell Mooney as a viable option at the moment. Everybody around the NFL undoubtedly noticed when the Tennessee Titans parted ways with Julio Jones.

There was a considerable amount of shock at the decision. The team had traded a healthy amount of draft capital for the seven-time Pro Bowler, hoping he was the final piece to their puzzle. Instead, his 2021 season was frustrating as he missed seven games and finished with his lowest yardage (434) and touchdown (1) totals. Unwilling to carry his hefty contract any longer, the Titans decided to cut their losses.

Many people are wondering if he’s worth the risk at this point.

Jones is 33-years old and continues to suffer from persistent hamstring issues. The guy just hasn’t been able to get his body right for two years now. One player that isn’t concerned about that is new Bears running back, Darrynton Evans. He signed with the team a few days ago. When the Julio Jones news dropped, he immediately took to Twitter calling on his new team to take a chance on the former All-Pro. He is 100% confident the receiver can still be a dominant force. He would know since they were teammates in Tennessee last year.

One player that may back up Evans is Justin Fields himself. Remember he grew up in Georgia during the 2010s when Jones was at the peak of his powers in Atlanta. It isn’t a stretch to think he’d jump at the opportunity to throw passes to the future Hall of Famer. The two also fit each other stylistically. Jones is known for his deep threat capability, and Fields is already one of the best vertical throwers in the NFL.

If the money is right, this is a move that makes sense for the Bears. Whether Jones himself wants to do it is another story. At this stage of his career, he might seek out a team with a better chance of competing for a Super Bowl.
