Bears Catch a Massive Break Before Panthers Game

-

The Bears are already favored to win at home against the Carolina Panthers this Sunday. However, Friday’s injury report for the Panthers gives the Bears an even bigger advantage.

Panthers’ Friday Injury Report:

Out: LB Josey Jewell, LB Shaq Thompson, and C Andrew Raym.

The Panthers have used a lot of Cover 3 through the first 4 games, so the Bears might stick with a short passing game led by Caleb Williams. But with both starting linebackers Jewell and Thompson out, the Panthers will be vulnerable. This increases the chances for DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, and D’Andre Swift to have big games. Additionally, the Panthers will be without their third-string center, Andrew Raym.

Adding to the concern, six other Panthers players are listed as questionable:

  • Robert Hunt, G
  • Shy Tuttle, DT
  • Dane Jackson, CB
  • Ian Thomas, TE
  • Jalen Coker, WR
  • Charles Harris, LB

While anything can happen on game day, timing is key in the NFL. It’s all about when you play a team sometimes. The Bears offense has been gradually improving, but they are still seeking that breakout performance. Playing at home, where they are 2-0, could be the perfect opportunity for them to shine.

Seems to me that a great performance against a hapless team at home tells us nothing…except that the offense is not totally inept. The bigger question comes from a close game or loss. Would the blame be more about execution or about Waldron? That would depend in part on HOW they arrived there. Even most HOF QBs have less than stellar first seasons, so maybe we really we won’t really have a firm grasp on how good Caleb (or Odunze, for that matter) is until he has a full season under his belt. Great receiving corps or not, rookies have… Read more »

Well, RoosterRider you should pull yours out of the long island red rooster or rocketass and try to shove it into mine, if you got the guts, Mr. Retired Businessman. You are a poor and vulgar leader even for male hyenas. Luv your bowtie and your unintended brownish shoes. Just where did the brown polish come from? I bet I know.

Exactly correct and close to my point. On what a priori basis–criteria and levels–are we going to judge Caleb’s performance and potential improvement against a hapless team? If one cannot specify such before the fact (i.e., the game), then you are left with more biased pronouncements and jagged debate, as usual. Induction versus deduction is often conflictual reasoning. Does he need to throw for 300yds with 150yds team rushing? Throw three TDs? Produce 20+ first downs? Manage the game? Control the clock? Just win? Or more against a weak and injured team while playing at home?

If the Bears can’t beat bottom dweller Carolina at full strength . . .
