David Ross has openly discussed his interest in managing the Cubs, most recently Sunday night on ESPN.

The Cubs and Joe Maddon have parted ways after five years and during Theo Epstein’s end-of-the-season press conference, he confirmed that Ross is one of several candidates to be the next Cubs manager.

As we all know, Ross played two seasons with the Cubs and was part of the 2016 World Series winning team. He’s close to a lot of the players still around, but if he’s hired it’s not because Ross was with the Cubs three years ago.

So, what does Epstein want the next Cubs manager to accomplish?

The latest odds have Ross as the favorite.

While Epstein said he didn’t want to drag out the process of hiring a new manager, he did not give a specific timeline of when that would be.
