Eddie Jackson is Not Backing Off His Super Bowl Plans in 2019

-

Eddie Jackson has become accustomed to winning in his football career. In high school, his teams at Boyd H. Anderson went 17-7 during his junior and senior seasons. Then he attended the University of Alabama where the program lost just six games total across his four years there. During which they claimed a national championship in 2015.

So Jackson not only is used to winning, he expects it. He also knows what winning teams are supposed to look and feel like. Based on his comments of late, his expectations for the Chicago Bears are sky high. Normally a player would offer the usual comments about an upcoming season. They’re hoping to win a lot of games and get to the playoffs.

Jackson doesn’t appear satisfied with such a low bar. He made it clear to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times that there is only one goal for this team, and it involved confetti and a silver trophy at the end of the season.

“Everything — how short, and how far, we came,” he said. “From the losing record to the winning record. How short we came, with the first-round playoff game with the field goal. Right now we just want to build off everything and let that be the fuel to our fire. We plan on taking this whole thing.”

Eddie Jackson knows the value of setting expectations

Jackson is a smart man. He knows there is a significant difference between wanting to win a Super Bowl and expecting to win one. Every team wants to win it. Those that do though are driven by a deeper belief that it’s their destiny to do so. Anything less than a championship at the end of the year is considered a failure. Sure, the Bears made the playoffs last year.

Good for them. How did it feel at the end? Crummy, to be sure. Jackson isn’t satisified with just playing an extra game in January. He wants that ring and he’ll accept nothing less. When one of the leaders on a team makes that widely known in public? It filters down to the rest of the roster. Once everybody is all-in on the Super Bowl, such a team becomes hard to beat.
