White Sox Fans Are Already Beating The Shit Out Of Each Other

This video appears to be from Monday’s canceled Chicago White Sox game, which might explain why fans are already kicking each others asses. There was a rain delay before the Opening Day festivities at Guaranteed Rate Field, so you have to imagine most fans who showed up were drinking most of the time. And you know, people are assholes sometimes.

White Sox fans fighting before a pitch has even been thrown in 2017 season isn’t even the amazing part of this video. These people are crazy, throwing haymakers from the upper deck. If you’ve ever been to whatever you want to call where the White Sox play, you know this seats are steep as hell. Afraid of heights? You might shit yourself.

Now, all of a sudden you’re throwing punches and getting into a brawl, and with one misstep you fall to your death.

Lots of action on the South Side despite no actual baseball on the field.

Kyle Schwarber Literally Hit A Horse’s Ass With A Home Run

Kyle Schwarber missed six months of baseball after a horrific injury to his leg, but he came back and helped the Chicago Cubs win the 2016 World Series. Despite that, this might be my favorite Kyle Schwarber story. He’s hit a car windshield before, but during this year’s spring training, Schwarber apparently hit a horse’s ass with a home run. Yes, I know. Mesmerizing.

The clydesdale named Andy wasn’t fazed by getting hit, so after the handlers found out who hit the ball they decided to give Schwarber one of Andy’s shoes. Schwarber now takes it everywhere, hoping it gives him some luck.

This has Schwarber written all over it.

So far so good with the lucky horseshoe, as Schwarber went 2-for-3, with a double and a walk against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The good news is Schwarber somehow didn’t kill that horse. Andy, ass of steel.

Fox Sports MLB Has The Most Hated Video On The Internet Featuring Steve Bartman

The 2016 MLB season ended with what most fans agree to call the best Game 7 of a World Series in the sport’s history. The longest championship drought in American sports history was finally snapped, as the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series title since 1908. So, how do you introduce the new MLB season? Steve Bartman, obviously.

I don’t know who had the brilliant idea of having a Steve Bartman video be not only written, but then made and then actually published, but everyone involved is completely out of touch here. The Fox Sports: MLB Twitter account proudly has this Opening Day video pinned to their Twitter feed, despite being the most hated video on the Internet. And no, I’m not just talking about one side being completely irate and the other side is making fun of those people for being mad. Everyone hates this video.

It features Rachel Bonnetta playing Bartman, who can now live his life as a free man after the Cubs won the World Series. The assumption being that other Cubs fans still blamed him for the Cubs losing the 2003 NLCS and not winning the World Series before 2016.

Pathetic. Quick question, do you know anyone who actually believed Steve Bartman was the reason the Cubs didn’t win in 2003, or actually blamed him for the Cubs’ failures? Those people don’t exist and if they did, they’re probably in a mental institution getting the much needed help they required.

Here’s the terrible video.

The reaction was overwhelming.

Flat out lazy. Oh, the Cubs won, let’s do a Bartman video.

I honestly thought we were over this phase. Even during the NLCS, when the Cubs were trailing the Dodgers 2-1, ESPN made a dumbass video that listed the “Cubs being cursed” as a reason they were down in the series. Stupid, but whatever the Cubs still hadn’t won. But now? Really? The Cubs just fucking won the World Series and you’re throwing this shit up about Steve Bartman?

Give me a break.

Hawk Harrelson Stole The Show On Opening Day With His Take On Good Managers

Opening Day didn’t go as planned for the Chicago White Sox, who eventually had to cancel Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field. However, despite no actual baseball being played, longtime voice of the White Sox, Ken “Hawk” Harrelson, stole the show on Opening Day.

There was a rain delay on the South Side before the game was called, and Hawk blessed everyone with the most Hawk moment ever. I’m not sure what he added afterward because the clip below was cutoff, but it’s still perfect Hawk.

Classic Hawk here.

Right off the bat, the completely unnecessary shade thrown at Steve Stone. “As long as you and I have been around baseball, me certainly longer than you.” HAHAHAHA. Then, Hawk follows that jab with a long pause that features some old man noises. No clue if he’s fighting off death, or if those noises naturally seep out from his body. And then the grand finale.

Actually, this is a good sign for White Sox fans because it appears that Hawk hasn’t gone 100 percent insane. Sure, he might think Todd Frazier is as good or even better than Kris Bryant, but at least he knows the White Sox are going to be bad this year. Yup, all of a sudden, Hawk isn’t concerned about wins and losses, it’s all about the eyes?

Again, Hawk was cut off, so I have no clue how he followed his thought about eyes making a good manager, but it’s better this way. Best highlight of Opening Day for the White Sox because again there was no game and the fans who went were probably miserable waiting in the rain. All they got was this hype video.

Well, there was also this electric entrance by the players in Mustangs.

Actually, solid Opening Day and you get to use your ticket for a future game too.

I’ve been a critic of Hawk before, but damn I think I need more of him on TV. Under one condition, he needs more takes like eyes making good managers.

Rick Renteria definitely has eyes.

Several Coaches Around NFL Are Loving The Bears Defense

bears defense

Not a lot went right for the Chicago Bears in 2016. Injuries completely infected the roster from top to bottom. The team finished 3-13, the franchises’ worst record ever in a 16-game season. To top it off every quarterback who started a game for them is now gone. It seems the only things they have to feel good about are Jordan Howard and a promising, young Bears defense.

In fact it’s the latter that seems to be generating some buzz around the NFL. Andy Benoit and Gary Gramling of the MMQB got on their most recent podcast to discuss 10 things happening in the league. Their final topic was none other than the Bears. Benoit then actually went out of his way to drop an interesting nugget.

Other NFL coaches are big believers in the Bears defense

Benoit has studied the Bears 2016 season in-depth over the past several weeks. He believes they’re a young team still trying to discover an identity but isn’t afraid to believe they are poised for a playoff push in the near future. The catalyst will be that defense. The unit showed flashes of brilliance at times with a dynamic pass rush led by Leonard Floyd, Pernell McPhee and Akiem Hicks.

Injuries played their part is masking what they could really be. Not to mention to fact they still have work to do on the secondary. However, there apparently is a growing chorus around the league that this group may be one of the 10 best in football.

“That’s a Good Defense there in Chicago. multiple defensive coaches around the nfl have told me that’s one of the league’s 10 best defenses without question and it’s a better defense on paper now than it was a year ago.”

One of the biggest reasons cited for such optimism is the fact the team has been able to build within the system of coordinator Vic Fangio for the past couple years. Players are getting used to the nuances of it, and thus will begin to think less and play faster. A frightening concept considering how much speed they’ve added lately.

Veteran corners like Prince Amukamara and Marcus Cooper join the fray. They’ll give the secondary a bit more stability. Not to mention the hopeful progression of promising rookies like Floyd, Jonathan Bullard, Nick Kwiatkoski, Cre’Von LeBlanc and Deon Bush. If GM Ryan Pace can stack another strong draft on top of this group at the end of April, thing could get interesting real fast in Chicago.

The Bears Drafting Marshon Lattimore Would Be Both Right and Wrong

bears drafting marshon lattimore

Can selecting a player be both the right thing and the wrong thing to do? It sounds odds and a bit crazy, but there is some truth to it. At least when it comes to the idea of the Chicago Bears drafting Marshon Lattimore. Naturally at this point many people are asking the simple question. Who is he talking about? To answer that one might as well start from the beginning.

Lattimore is a cornerback coming out of Ohio State. According to most draft analysts he is the consensus best at his position in the entire 2017 draft class. He has all the tools: size, athleticism, quickness, agility and above all speed. He can match up with any type of receiver on a field and play them man for man. He’s also somebody the Bears are keeping an eye on.

It’s no secret Chicago had one of the worst secondaries in the NFL last season. Both the cornerback and safety positions were overrun with banged up veterans and untested youngsters. Virtually no talents worth getting excited about. As important as the front seven is, the Bears defense won’t be a force until they can fortify the back end.

Thus the logic. Why not just grab Lattimore at #3 overall in the draft? Turns out there is plenty right with that question. Also, there is plenty wrong with it.

Why the Bears drafting Marshon Lattimore is right

From a logical perspective, there is plenty to love about the idea. Lattimore would instantly be the most talented defensive back in the Bears secondary. That caliber of player they can line up against the best receiver of every opponent they face. They haven’t had something like that since Charles Tillman was around. Is it any coincidence the defense ranked in the top 10 so often during those years?

Lattimore could be every bit as good. Maybe not the turnover machine Peanut was, but definitely an exceptional cover man. Despite being just a sophomore in 2016, he notched four interceptions, a defensive touchdown and deflected nine other passes. That’s what is so tantalizing about him. He’s already playing this well and is only 20-years old.

Just imagine how much better he’ll get with more experience. Not to mention the technique refinement he’d absorb from Ed Donatell, one of the best secondary coaches in football. It’s almost a no brainer in that regard. An instant fix for one of the most bothersome positions on the entire Bears roster.

Why it’s wrong

There is one thing that can often be dreaded with a position like corner. In fact one of the Bears’ very own current players, Tracey Porter, suffered from it frequently over his career. That being hamstring issues. Lattimore was plagued by that problem throughout 2015. Something NFL.com writer Lance Zierlein explained. Including how bad it got.

“You could say Lattimore was hamstrung by injuries during his first couple of seasons with the Buckeyes. His hamstrings gave him so much trouble that he eventually had surgery, causing him to miss his freshman year. Though he played in seven games in 2015 (five tackles), he couldn’t finish the season due to the chronic issue coming up again.”

Everybody knows how the Bears have already had to deal with two first round picks who’ve had trouble staying healthy. Kevin White suffered two broken leg-related injuries. Leonard Floyd dealt with a variety of ailments including two concussions. Try to imagine how fans might react of they see Ryan Pace takes a player who had issues coming in.

Then there is the matter of draft corners that high. Since the beginning of the Super Bowl era in 1966. Only two players were selected in the top three picks at that position. One was a career journeyman and the other made it to one Pro Bowl in 13 seasons. The position comes with a large degree of risk. Not to mention the overarching concern that it’s one that doesn’t impact the game enough. At least not like a pass rusher, quarterback or offensive tackle.

Besides, due to the nature of the league the depth of talent at cornerback is richer than ever due to its high demand. Finding quality players in the second round or later is easier these days than it was a few decades ago. Experts are confident teams picking high on Day Two, which the Bears will, could definitely land a quality corner given the depth of this class.

So yeah. Ryan Pace has a tough decision ahead of him.

Kris Bryant Hooks His Teammates Up With Some Sick Gear To Start The 2017 Season

The list of accomplishments that Kris Bryant has achieved in his baseball career thus far are nothing short of staggering: Golden Spikes (2013), MiLB Player of the Year (2014), Rookie of the Year (2015), NL MVP (2016) and let’s not forget World Series champion.

The 25-year-old kid from Las Vegas has lived up to every ounce of hype that was surrounding him when he was drafted with the second overall pick in the 2013 MLB draft. What makes him even more impressive is the level of humility that he has shown every single day that he has been a part of the Chicago Cubs organization. You can call Bryant a lot of things, but arrogant is not one of them.

The people at Adidas saw Bryant’s humility (and baseball skill) in 2013 after the Cubs snatched him up with the number two pick in the draft. Mark King, Adidas Group’s North America president, said of Bryant,

“What I love about him is just how humble and appreciative he is to be playing the game of baseball.”

Adidas made the deal with Bryant official in 2014 when they won the right to sign him to a two-year deal that sources say was worth about $30,000 a year. Last year, he re-signed with the company in a record breaking multi-year deal about a month after helping the Cubs win the 2016 World Series championship.

So as you can clearly see — KB is getting PAID by the good people at Adidas.

Bryant recently paid back his teammates with an Adidas “gift bag” just in time for the 2017 season. Bryant allegedly packed the bags himself which featured some of Adidas’ newest gear: Adidas x Reigning Champ collaboration, Adidas x RC Ultra BOOST and alphaBOOST and allegedly hand delivered them to his teammates.

I’m saying allegedly because it’s hard for me to wrap my brain around the NL MVP packing up bags and walking around a team hotel to deliver them himself. Then I think about it and for some reason I can actually see him delivering these bags to his teammates because that’s just the kind of guy he is.

Humble.

If you’re like me and have no idea what the hell any of that Adidas stuff is, here ya go.

This is a great example of a time when it pays to have the reigning NL MVP as a teammate.

Rick Hahn Has Some Upsetting News For White Sox Fans About Carlos Rodon

I could be completely wrong, but didn’t this entire Carlos Rodon arm issue seem a little fishy since the start? The Chicago White Sox started spring training holding back Rodon from throwing for a month after revealing that the young left-handed starter went through some fatigue issues in 2016. Manager Rick Renteria said in the middle of March that Rodon wouldn’t start until the fifth or sixth game of the regular season and that there were no plans of putting Rodon on the disabled list.

A few weeks after that Rodon was getting MRIs on his left arm and after structural damage was confirmed, the White Sox placed the pitcher on the 10-day disabled list. Well, on Opening Day for the White Sox, GM Rick Hahn revealed some shocking news. Rodon won’t return to the team for another 5-6 weeks if there are no setbacks after being sidelined because of bursitis in his left bicep.

Not exactly what you want to hear about your 24-year-old lefty, who may end up being the No. 1 or No. 2 pitcher in your starting rotation when the rebuild reaches its apex. It’s shocking news because at no point did fans get the indication that Rodon’s injury could be considered this serious and now all of a sudden the best case scenario is him missing 5-6 weeks.

Rodon had an encouraging second half last year, posting a 3.45 ERA in 12 starts after the All-Star break.

The injury is more significant for Rodon as an individual because right now it doesn’t matter how good the White Sox are. In fact, they’re trying to be bad, so in a way Rodon missing time helps with that. Of course, it definitely blows that he’s missing time and you never want any pitcher missing significant time because of arm issues. So, the White Sox won’t be in any rush to bring back Rodon, but the news is still surprising.

Joffrey Lauvergne Is My New Favorite Player After Mocking DeMarcus Cousins’ Ridiculous Flopping

I’ve been a big DeMarcus Cousins fan for years, but no one can defend his horrendous flopping. Cousins graduated from the LeBron James school of acting with honors and has brought his own unique style of flopping to the NBA. On Sunday, Chicago Bulls big man Joffrey Lauvergne was tired of the Cousins’ bullshit and couldn’t resist openly mocking the New Orleans Pelicans’ center after a sequence of flopping.

It happened late in the third quarter, as the Bulls were controlling the game with a 10-point lead. Cousins and Lauvergne were jockeying for position in the post, when Cousins put on a show. Lauvergne was called for a foul and immediately after the whistle he flopped around like Cousins did.

This is flat out funny.

Pretty good impression in my opinion.

Cousins actually reminds me of the wacky inflatable arm flailing tube man.

One thing, though, Lauvergne can’t ever be caught doing an egregious flop. You can’t be the guy calling out bad flopping and then turn around and do the same thing.

Speaking of flopping, Lauvergne should’ve dove on the floor after this Michael Carter-Williams flop.

https://twitter.com/_MarcusD2_/status/848685509673193472

That’s a flop straight out of any soccer game you watch.

Oh and by the way, another great job of flopping by Rajon Rondo. Well, he really sold the call by dying afterward here.

Rondo. 😂😂😂

OK, I’ll admit, I laughed at this too.

There is still some joy watching the Bulls.

5 Reasons Why You Should Watch The White Sox This Year

Tim Anderson, White Sox

OK, we get it. After years of high hopes and confidence, followed by disappointment and bitter tears, it is pretty hard to brace yourself for another two or three years of losing baseball. However, that doesn’t mean that no one should care or pay any attention to the White Sox in 2017.

This year, there is no false hope being thrown around. Everywhere you look, the White Sox are projected to finish last in the AL Central, so there shouldn’t be any disappointment this year.

That being said, why not watch the team? If they lose, it’s expected, and if they win, it is a gift from the baseball gods. There are actually quite a few reasons why you should want to watch the White Sox this season. From the young players to the newcomers to the veterans, this team can be very entertaining.

5.) Pay Your Respects Before The Veterans Go

Even though the White Sox are in a rebuild mode, there are still a number of veterans that Rick Hahn has not yet traded away. Jose Abreu, Jose Quintana, Melky Cabrera, Todd Frazier, and David Robertson highlight the potential trades near the trade deadline this summer. But why shut down on them this year? They are still going to give all they got and it should still be pretty exciting.

The skills of LF Cabrera are top-notch, specially when he robs home runs from Kris Bryant.

Abreu has shown that he produces even though the rest of his team may not. He started off his first two MLB seasons with at least 30 home runs and 100 RBIs and has finished every year with at least 100 RBIs. Even though the Toddfather may only get a hit once out of every 15 at bats, that one hit is usually a home run. His defense at third is above average and its nice to see a White Sox player in the Home Run Derby for once.

Jose Quintana will once again throw shutouts, but somehow end up with a no decision. Just because Chris Sale was traded doesn’t mean that the White Sox don’t have an ace anymore. Quintana is even projected to win the AL Cy Young award this year by Ken Rosenthal.

4.) Tim Anderson

All eyes were on Anderson even before the team signed him to a six-year deal. In his short time with the team last year, he made incredible plays at shortstop and was a threat every time he stepped in the box. He’s the future star of the team and the future face of the franchise. His arm strength helps him snag runners at first, but what is really special about him is his baseball IQ. He knows what is going on, and everyone in the stands knows that he is the dominant force on the diamond.

His exciting plays makes it worth to watch the team this year. Staring at the future of the Chicago White Sox, it’s nice to know that for the first time in a while, there is legitimate hope for this team for bringing a division title to this city and hopefully a pennant along with a World Series trophy.

3.) Smart Baseball

Unlike Robin Ventura, Ricky Renteria actually knows how to manage a team. This season, you won’t see bunts by Melky Cabrera in the 3rd inning anymore. It will be a well-managed club, that is guaranteed. From being manager of the Cubs in 2014 and becoming the White Sox bench coach after that, he has seen a lot of incredible things in this city and he is planning to make some more.

The skills that Renteria brings to this team are needed and appreciated. He holds his players accountable and to a higher standard. Even though everyone is expecting him to manage a losing team, he will do all he can to try to prove those doubters wrong.

2.) The Call Ups

The Chris Sale and Adam Eaton trade has brought some interesting new faces to the team. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to see these new faces for a while as the majority of them are in AAA Charlotte. Since the White Sox front office is well aware of the rebuild that they are going through, sending their youngsters down to the minors to begin the season is actually a smart idea.

Yoan Moncada is ranked the 2nd best prospect in all of baseball.  Lucas Giolito is viewed as a strong starter for the club a few years down the road, and his time in the minors will be well spent. Lopez is another starter that actually could have made the 25-man roster, but was sent to the minors for the same reasons. The next player has basically the whole country stoked to watch: Michael Kopech. His fastballs that are consistent at 100 and 101 MPH are no laughing matter. His career high is 105 MPH, just in case anyone forgot. Will he be the next Chapman? We will have to wait until September to find out.

Kopech isn’t the only guy on the team that can throw 100+. Zach Burdi and Tommy Kahnle also fit that description. Burdi is viewed as a future closer for the White Sox. It’s a different situation for Kahnle. He will be fighting to stay on the club this year when he does get called up. Although he throws hard, he had 20 walks in 27.1 innings last season. He will have to get his control down if the Sox want to have the hardest throwing team in the league. Nevertheless, all of these players will be exciting to watch as they are called up towards the end of the season.

1.) The Underdogs

This is the Chicago White Sox we are talking about, not some minor league team. They are the underdogs in Chicago and in the MLB. Because of the success that the Chicago Cubs had in 2016, you know winning the World Series and all, a lot of attention has been lost, and the White Sox are viewed as “the other team”. No one in the MLB thinks that they are serious contenders for even a Wild Card spot, and it will be fun to watch some more walk offs by the youngsters or towering home runs by the veterans.

So sit back, relax, and strap it down, White Sox baseball is coming your way.
