The White Sox have found themselves on another winning streak, as this time they have currently won five in a row. This is due to many factors, but most of the hitters in the lineup are providing clutch hits and good at-bats, while also getting a boost from the starting pitching.
One of the hitters that has propelled this winning streak is shortstop Colson Montgomery, as he has been very good over his last seven games. In those last seven games, he is hitting .346 with a .414 OBP. He’s also added two home runs, four RBIs, and has slugged .692

This has been good to see out of Montgomery, as he was on a bit of a cold streak prior to this. Montgomery now has 15 home runs, which is the most by any shortstop in the major leagues. He also added a clutch home run to help win today’s game. When you pair this with Montgomery’s elite defense, he has cemented himself as one of the best shortstops in the majors.
However, outside of being one of the best shortstops in the major leagues, Montgomery is continuing to make White Sox history. According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, Montgomery is the fastest player in White Sox history to make it to 35 home runs, beating out White Sox legend Jose Abreu by five games.
Also: Colson Mongomery hit his 35th career HR (playing in his 128th game today). He's the fastest player in White Sox history to reach that mark (José Abreu in 133 games) https://t.co/1HHl3LsrqK

Anytime you are passing up Jose Abreu in any statistic, you are in good company. Not to disparage Abreu, but his first 133 games were played as a 27-year-old who came from Cuban professional baseball. This makes Montgomery’s feat even more impressive, as it has come as a 23/24 year old.
Montgomery is now on pace for nearly 40 home runs, which would be more than any shortstop hit in the majors last season. This is a great start for Montgomery, as he will likely end up being a perennial 5+ WAR player who hits 30-40 home runs. This is all you can really ask for and more out of Montgomery. Montgomery currently ranks 3rd in WAR among all shortstops according to FanGraphs.
After being sent to Arizona last year during the minor league season, many people thought that would be the end of Montgomery making it to Chicago, as he was struggling with the Charlotte Knights. Now, just one year later Montgomery is one of the best shortstops in the league. It is truly crazy to see how far he’s come in just one calendar year.
Montgomery has made his way through plenty of adversity and this success is a testament to his hard work and the White Sox developmental team. It’s not crazy to think that he will continue to get even better, as he is just 24 years old and hasn’t even entered his prime.
