We Know More About Jason Heyward’s Injury And It’s Not Great

-

One of the great stories from this season has been the emergence of Jason Heyward at the plate. After two frustrating years, Heyward finally became a solid offensive player for the Cubs, to go along with his gold glove defense in the outfield. However, it looks like he won’t be returning until the end of September.

About two weeks back, the Cubs had a make up game against the Atlanta Braves and in the fifth inning Heyward injured his hamstring trying to make a diving catch in shallow left-center.

We haven’t really known more about the injury since then, but now we do and it’s not too great.

As always with hamstrings, you can never be too sure how serious the injury can be. The hope for Heyward was that it wasn’t too bad and he would only be out a week or two. Well, now the optimistic view is that he’ll be back in time to play in some games before the end of the regular season.

The Cubs also hope to learn more about the condition of outfielder Jason Heyward, who is recovering from a Grade 1 right hamstring strain he suffered Aug. 30 while attempting to make a diving catch in Atlanta.

Being that it’s a hamstring strain, the recovery time extends closer to a month. So, right now Heyward is just hoping to return before September ends.

Depending on how much time is left, it might be difficult for Heyward to get back in rhythm at the plate. We’ve seen how Kris Bryant hasn’t really looked as sharp as we’re accustomed to seeing him since his latest return from the DL and he had a few rehab games in the minors. Heyward won’t have that benefit as the minor league season will be over.

In the meantime, Heyward went through some exercises on Monday at Wrigley Field.

So, hopefully his return arrives sooner rather than later.
