Umpire Screws The Cubs Again, Ian Happ Ejected

-

The Cubs fell behind 5-0 to the Nationals on Saturday, but after scoring a run in the third they had another rally in the fourth. With two outs and the bases loaded Ian Happ pinch-hit for Jose Quintana.

Happ was down in the count 0-2, but battled back to make it a full count against Joe Ross. On the 3-2 pitch, Happ took ball off the outside edge for the bases loaded walk that would have cut the deficit to three and turned over the lineup. It probably would have been the end of the day for Ross and the Cubs would be in business against the bad Nationals bullpen.

But no, the home plate umpire called the pitch strike three to end the inning and Happ was ejected for arguing another call that screwed the Cubs.

By the way, this goes for everyone. Today’s ump is just another example of how there is no actual strike zone in MLB it’s just whatever each umpire wants to call a strike on any given day.
