I just can’t comprehend why anyone would get so mad about a bat flip, but for whatever reason some fans think it’s disrespectful and that includes Darin Pritchett, who happens to be the South Bend Cubs radio play-by-play announcer.
Pritchett got the radio play-by-play duties starting in 2015, when David Bote played 98 games for South Bend. Bote has come a long way since then, quickly becoming a fan favorite on the North Side and going from a relative unknown to start 2018, to basically locking down a playoff roster spot with his performance in less than 40 games of his rookie season.
Bote made more history Sunday night against the Washington Nationals, hitting a walk-off grand slam with two outs in the ninth inning.
Literally every little kid’s dream come true at the highest level of the game.

Just an amazing moment for Bote, who put the cherry on top of the walk-off slam with this subtle, but awesome bat flip.

Again, no clue why flipping a stupid bat is even a topic of “controversy” but for Pritchett the action is worthy of making an example out of your son.
My son ever does this I drag him off the field by his ear. https://t.co/5LmOy1o7NI

Oh baby! Look at that ratio. (UPDATE: he deleted the tweet, but here it is)

Turns out Darin is the classic, old school baseball fan.
great example…and got drilled the next time they played in the regular seasn. Job well done Texas Rangers. https://t.co/PLHac5aSCq

And Bote’s bat flip was somehow too selfish for our boy Darin here.

been on the air 20 years and the message hasn't changed no matter of team or player. Im teaching my son the way I played and everyone else can do what they want. https://t.co/Tiz4JKnc37

By the way, can someone let Darin’s son know about this and please dare him to bat flip. Gotta see if he actually does this.
want to bet? https://t.co/AaMO4wsKr5

C’mon, Darin’s son, we’ll split half the winnings.
Again, I don’t know why anyone thinks flipping a bat is disrespectful, but here we are.
its called respsecting people on the field like everyday life. Sorry that is how I played. https://t.co/GalFqBvDil

Hmm. I wonder what the real reason behind the hate is.
you are correct. https://t.co/CygPk8YNfj

As a lover of the game of baseball + diehard Cardinals fan..every day the last 3 years I would look up Oscar Taveras box score. #RisingStar

Ah yes, it turns out that Darin is a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan.
I, for one, am totally shocked that one of the best fans in baseball isn’t too keen on the bat flip, although wait a minute.
Hmm…
