The 2019 rosters for the Arizona Fall League have been announced and the Cubs have six prospects participating, including Nico Hoerner and Miguel Amaya.

Teams are allowed to send as many as seven prospects to the AFL, which features several of the top current minor league players.

This will be Hoerner’s second appearance in the AFL.

The 2019 season started off great for Hoerner, who slashed .300/.391/.500, in 18 games before suffering a fractured wrist.

Hoerner struggled after missing a few months with the injury, but he’s bounced back nicely since the start of August, showing why despite not quite having his power back was so hyped during the 2018 AFL.

By spring training, Hoerner will most likely be competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster, as he’s not only been solid in the infield but has even started 11 games in center field at Double-A this season.

Meanwhile, Amaya will make his AFL debut after another good season. The 20-year-old catcher wore down in 2018, but he’s overcome those shortcomings from a year ago to finish 2019 strong.

Amaya has posted an .827 OPS in 48 games since the All-Star break and despite only hitting .241 overall at Myrtle Beach, he’s shown incredible patience at the plate, striking out 68 times, but drawing 54 walks. He’s hit 11 home runs at advanced A-Ball, where a prospect’s power is supposed to be sapped away.

So, you’ll definitely want to keep an eye out for those two as they’ll face and play alongside some of the best current prospects this fall.
