The Chicago Cubs have reportedly traded for left-handed starting pitcher Reid Detmers from the Los Angeles Angels, adding him to their starting rotation a day after acquiring Kevin Gausman.
Bleacher Nation’s Michael Cerami broke the trade on Monday.
Detmers is under team control through 2028. The 27-year-old has put up the following numbers so far in 2026: 22 GS, 125 IP, 4.03 ERA, 3.35 FIP, 28.3 K%, 7.4 BB%, 1.10 WHIP.

OK, so there are now a few conflicting reports saying the Cubs have not acquired Detmers.
Since then, Cerami has doubled down, following up on his initial scoop with the following.
“I obviously see the pushback from solid reporters out there. For now, I am standing by my reporting. I haven’t been wrong before and trust my source(s). If I need to retract it and apologize, I will. But we are not there yet.”
Cerami has broken several trades for the Cubs, including the Edward Cabrera deal back in the offseason. We’ll see what happens, but this would be a major blow if a deal ultimately fell through.
