Addison Russell is back with the Cubs.

David Kaplan was the first to report that Russell was in Chicago on Wednesday and not with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. He is now reporting that Russell will indeed be activated before tonight’s game against the Marlins.

Russell was eligible to return May 3, after serving a 40-game suspension for violating MLB’s domestic violence policy. Last week, Theo Epstein said before the team’s series in Seattle that Russell would not be immediately back once his suspension was over.

The Cubs scratched Ben Zobrist from Tuesday night’s lineup saying it was because of a personal reason.

Russell’s played in 12 games at Triple-A and has batted .222, with 3 home runs, 13 RBIs, a .357 OBP and .467 slugging % in 45 at-bats this season. In 2018, Russell slashed .250/.317/.340, in 130 games.

The Cubs have discussed playing Russell at other positions, as Javier Báez has emerged as a star shortstop for the Cubs.
