The Cubs made a few trades during the season to provide some help to the pitching staff and while Cole Hamels was more than great filling in for Yu Darvish, this team might not have gone as far as it did without Jesse Chavez.
The 35-year-old right-hander made 32 appearances for the Cubs after he was traded to Chicago by the Texas Rangers. He pitched 39 innings and had a 1.15 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. Chavez began his MLB career back in 2008, with the Pirates and for the first time he finally made it to the postseason this year with the Cubs.
Chavez pitched two scoreless innings against the Brewers in the tie-breaker and had a scoreless inning in the Wild Card Game against the Rockies. Unfortunately that’s as far as he and the Cubs were able to get in 2018, but he wants another shot at a title and he wants to do it with the Cubs.
Maybe it was the experience of a playoff push in September. Maybe the guys in the clubhouse are just awesome, but whatever it was, Jesse Chavez wants to come back to the Cubs in 2019.

Here’s what he reportedly said following the Wild Card Game.
Jesse Chavez just told a few of his teammates "If I'm not wearing this next year –points to Cubs logo on shirt– I'm done." https://t.co/1dnrmmrhIz

So, sounds like he really fell in love with this team and if it’s not the Cubs then Chavez will call it a career. But we’ll see what happens in the offseason.
He throws strikes. Pay that man and give it one more spin of the wheel.
