The Cubs have added newly acquired left-handed reliever Derek Holland to their bullpen before Saturday night’s game against the Brewers and they’ve placed Daniel Descalso on the injured list.
Descalso has essentially been benched since May, getting only 25 at-bats in June and six in the month of July.
So, Descalso is gone for now and the Cubs have a second lefty in the bullpen with Holland, who the Cubs traded for on Friday from the Giants. He’s been great against left-handed hitters and should only be used against left-handed hitters.
