After trading Mike Montgomery for Martin Maldonado early in July, the Cubs have now made a deal with the Astros, dealing the veteran catcher to Houston.
Maldonado only played in four games during his short stint with the Cubs.
The Cubs are getting Tony Kemp in return.
Kemp, 27, can play the outfield and second base. It’s a solid move to add to the bench, but you’d obviously love to see the Cubs add a bigger bat.
The left-handed hitter has a career .240/.322/.376 slash line. Kemp was solid in 2018, posting a .351 OBP in 255 at-bats.
Tired of seeing Cubs hitters strikeout? Well, Kemp is the contact guy fans have wanted for a while.
