Cubs Set Franchise Record in 4th of July Beat Down of the Cardinals

-

What a way to celebrate the 4th of July in Chicago as the Cubs started the fireworks early against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field. Michael Busch’s career day led to a franchise record eight home runs in a game by the Cubs on Friday afternoon as the Cubs pounded right-handed starter Miles Mikolas and the Cardinals.

Seiya Suzuki and Pete Crow-Armstrong started the home run party with back-to-back homers in the first inning.

Suzuki continues to add on to his career high in home runs, already surpassing his previous high-water mark of 21. The Cubs’ designated hitter and part-time outfielder now has 23 home runs in 2025 and Suzuki will also blow by his previous high in RBI. He’s up to 73 RBI this year, one away from tying his previous best.

Then, the Cubs hit back-to-back home runs again in the second inning. Busch hit his first one of the day and was then followed by Carson Kelly.

PCA then hit his second homer in the third inning.

The star center fielder now has 23 home runs, keeping pace with Suzuki for the team lead so far in 2025.

Oh and Busch followed with his second homer later in the third inning, too.

The Cubs then went back-to-back AGAIN in the seventh inning. First, Dansby Swanson joined the party and Busch followed with the record-setting eighth home run for the Cubs.

Unbelievable.

Out of those eight, six home runs came against Mikolas in the first three innings, which also set a Cardinals’ record. Oh and also tied an MLB record.

Cubs won 11-3, extending their winning streak to four games.
