Anthony Rizzo was taken out of Saturday’s game with back tightness and was out of the lineup Sunday, when the Cubs were swept at home in a three-game series for the first time since 2017. Now, as the Cubs are set to begin a three-game series on the road against the Mets, Rizzo will probably miss his second game in a row.
Rizzo was on ESPN 1000 and the Cubs’ first baseman sounded like he won’t be playing Tuesday night.
Before this latest back issue on Saturday, Rizzo was on a roll, going 8-for-16, with three home runs, seven RBIs and eight runs scored in five games. Overall in August, Rizzo has a .994 OPS in 86 plate appearances.
Ian Happ started at first base on Sunday.
