I’m still shaking after that. Ten runs in one inning. I can’t believe it. The bullpen was once again a disaster for the Cubs, but somehow, someway, the team fought back and beat the Diamondbacks on Friday in what turned out to the be the craziest game of 2025.
It seemed like Déjà vu as the eighth inning was a disaster for Craig Counsell and the Cubs bullpen. Jordan Wicks came in with a 7-1 lead and five pitches later the bases were loaded. Counsell didn’t want to mess around and brought in Porter Hodge and that backfired. A grand slam, a few more base runners and a two-out error by Gage Workman gave the Diamondbacks an 8-7 lead.
Arizona added a three-run homer and took an 11-7 lead into the bottom of the eighth. The last time these two teams played each other the Diamondbacks scored eight runs in the eighth to erase a 6-2 deficit and beat the Cubs 10-6.
The 8th inning hates to see us coming.

Less than 15 minutes later, the Cubs were back up 13-11, after Kyle Tucker and Seiya Suzuki hit back-to-back home runs.
The Cubs social team did not miss the opportunity to troll the Diamondbacks.

The comeback began with Carson Kelly’s second home run of the game, a three-run bomb, his sixth of the season.
Batshit crazy game. Yeah, the bullpen was atrocious. Workman and Vidal Bruján were awful at third base, but for now you can put that on the back burner and enjoy an unbelievable win by the Cubs.

That’s now two games this week that they’ve won that they 100% lose the past couple years.
Enjoy these calls from Pat Hughes.

1. Carson Kelly’s 3-run homer to make it 11-10 in the 8th.
2. Kyle Tucker’s go-ahead 2-run blast to make it 12-11.
Enjoy! pic.twitter.com/CRFcUr5EzJ
Time to put Berti at 3rd, until they call up Shaw again. I was hoping Workman would pan out, but he has turned into a liability on defense. If they release Workman, they call up Keegan. Hes on and off but as of what I had seen yesterday, the more arms the better.
I enjoy this way better than all the 1 run losses of last year!! @bringshawback
This was the type of game that makes you squirm in your seat. But enjoyable outcome.
You were SAYING!
