You know what the Cubs don’t need? Another one of their top relievers being injured. You know what the Cubs might be dealing with? Yeah, another injury to a top reliever.

All season long the Cubs have dealt with their fair share of some bad relief pitching and some injuries too. Before Monday’s series opener against the A’s, closer Craig Kimbrel went on the injured list with knee inflammation. Pedro Strop has missed time with multiple injuries this year and Brandon Morrow hasn’t pitched since last July.

Anyway, Brandon Kintzler has been somewhat of a savior in the Cubs bullpen, but now he’ll be closely monitored after feeling something in his right pec during his relief appearance on Monday.

Not ideal.

Kintzler came into Monday’s game in the eighth inning after Steve Cishek gave up three runs on two home runs. Kintzler got a strikeout, allowed a single and then got a ground out to end the threat by the A’s, who cut the Cubs lead from 6-2 to 6-5. The Cubs held on for the one-run win.

Now, we’re all praying Kintzler wakes up feeling OK on Tuesday, as the Cubs simply can’t afford another injury to one of their more effective relievers this season.
