Victor Caratini is back with the Cubs.

The backup catcher last played on April 11, when he broke the hamate bone in his hand. He had surgery and has been playing in the minors for the past couple weeks. Prior to Thursday’s series finale against the Reds, the Cubs activated Caratini from the injured list and sent Taylor Davis to Triple-A Iowa.

Before the hand injury, Caratini played in six games and was 8-for-14, with a home run, five RBIs, three walks and three doubles.

In nine rehab games with South Bend and Iowa, Caratini went 8-for-30, with two RBIs, two doubles and three walks.

Caratini is starting at first base tonight.

Anthony Rizzo will now miss his fourth straight game with back tightness. He was out on the field testing his back on Thursday.

Cubs GM Jed Hoyer was on 670 The Score Thursday morning and said the team hopes Rizzo will be back against the Nationals this weekend.
