Craig Kimbrel Looks Sharp In Possible Final Tune-Up Before Joining Cubs Bullpen

-

Craig Kimbrel pitched Friday and Saturday for the Iowa Cubs and then got two days off before making his fourth relief outing at Triple-A Tuesday night. The right-handed closer pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out the last two batters he faced, as Iowa won 5-1.

Although Kimbrel fell behind in the count to the three batters he faced, he made relatively easy work of them.

This could possibly be Kimbrel’s last tune-up before joining the Cubs bullpen.

During Tuesday’s 3-2 loss to the Braves, right-hander Brad Brach pitched two innings and threw more than 40 pitches. He definitely won’t be available for Wednesday’s game, so maybe the Cubs decide to call up Kimbrel as soon as Wednesday?

Nevertheless, it looks like Kimbrel is getting really close to finally joining the Cubs.
