Ben Zobrist Back In Action Friday Night

Ben Zobrist hasn’t played baseball since May 7, but he’s taking his first step back to returning to the Cubs on Friday night. Zobrist will report to the South Bend Cubs and is going to be in the lineup as the DH.

The 13-year pro will play all three games this weekend with the Cubs Single-A affiliate and the team hopes he’ll be ready to return to the majors by the end of August.

Ben Zobrist will join the Class-A South Bend Cubs and play three games with them, then take a day off so as to not do too much, Theo Epstein says. Eventually, he'll work his way to Triple-A. #Cubs expect it to take most or all of August for him to round into form.

Zobrist has to be reinstated from the restricted list before Sept. 1, to be eligible for postseason play.

Will play Fri, Sat, Sun for Class A South Bend. DH today for 2-3 at-bats. Cubs will reassess next step on Monday.
