The Cubs desperately need some depth and one player they have been heavily interested in has been Blue Jays infielder Eric Sogard. On Sunday, the Blue Jays traded him to the Rays.

Sogard is having a career season, recording a .362 OBP in 73 games. He’s batting .300, and could have been penciled into the top of the Cubs batting order.

However, does anyone really trust that Sogard will continue to have an amazing season? Yes, he’d be an upgrade right now to David Bote and his atrocious past month, but we’re talking about a guy who has a career .657 OPS in Sogard.

Just how the Cubs were rumored to be interested in Jake Diekman from the Royals and he was eventually traded to the A’s, maybe it’s a good thing the Cubs didn’t trade for him or Sogard.
