Besides Todd Frazier’s leadoff homer in the ninth inning, Adbert Alzolay was amazing and just short of perfect in his MLB debut for the Cubs against the Mets Thursday night.

The right-hander took over in the fifth inning and although his command was shaky as a result of the adrenaline pumping through his body, Alzolay settled down and gave Cubs fans a glimpse of what should be a great career on the North Side.

Alzolay recorded his first MLB strikeout to finish the fifth inning and then he struck out the side in the sixth.

He followed that up with a six-pitch seventh and retired the side in order again in the eighth.

Alzolay showed it all in his debut, freezing hitters with a curveball and fooling the Mets with a great change up. And as you saw in the highlights, that fastball was pretty good too.

Alzolay not only looked like he belong in the majors, he owned that mound tonight. His scouting report said he worked fast and he did. He got the ball, knew what he wanted to throw and executed.

What an awesome debut for Adbert Alzolay. He’s here to stay.

Alzolay’s final line in his MLB debut, 4+ innings, 5 K, 2 BB, 1 H, 1 ER and his first win.

We all love when position players come up, but it’s just a different feeling watching a pitching prospect come up and absolutely dominate in his debut. That was amazing tonight from Adbert.

Learn the name, Cubs fans, he’s going to be really damn good.
