Here’s The First Fill-In For Bulls Announcer Neil Funk

-

Back in September the Bulls announced that TV play-by-play man Neil Funk would reduce his broadcast schedule for the 2018-19 season. Funk, who has been calling Bulls games since 1991 and has been the TV voice of the team for a decade, will cut 20 road games from his slate this upcoming season.

Although the team hasn’t officially named all of Funk’s fill-in announcers, we do know that ESPN’s Adam Amin will replace Funk on Oct. 22, when the Bulls play on the road against the Mavericks.

The game in Dallas will be on NBC Sports Chicago at 7:30 p.m.

That will be the third game of the season for the Bulls, coming after they make their season debut on Thursday against the 76ers and then their home debut Saturday against the Pistons.

Fun fact, Amin’s first NBA broadcast was back in 2016, when the Timberwolves played the Bulls in Chicago on ESPN. That was Tom Thibodeau’s first game against the Bulls as Minnesota’s head coach.

Fans in Chicago have probably heard Amin before. Check out his resume, which includes announcing three preseason Bears games this year.

Via the Chicago Tribune.

Since he joined ESPN in 2011 at age 24, there’s little Amin hasn’t called, from NCAA championships and NBA, NFL and MLB regular-season games and playoffs to the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and McDonald’s All-American high school basketball games.

En route to ESPN, he worked for an array of outfits, including Turner Sports Digital/NCAA Productions, Fox Sports Wisconsin, the Illinois High School Association and the Horizon League Network.

The Bears shrewdly tapped Amin this summer for three of the four preseason game telecasts they produced. A scheduling conflict kept him from the fourth, leading the team to turn to NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt.

Amin told the Chicago Tribune that he doesn’t know if he’ll broadcast any more Bulls games this season.

Amin, a Chicago native, graduated from Valparaiso University.
